This mid-range safari allows you to experience the highlights of the northern safari circuit. You will experience breathtaking wildlife in the midst of some of the most diverse landscapes imaginable. Part of this trip will take you to the world-famous Serengeti National Park. The Great Migration is the movement of vast numbers of the Serengeti's wildebeest, accompanied by large numbers of zebra and other animals. These animals move in an annual pattern that is fairly predictable.
On this safari, you will be accommodated in the following accommodations:
Nestled in the heart of Arusha, Planet Lodge will captivate you with the natural beauty of the Tanzanian landscape. Their unique African village-styled accommodations offer you a peaceful sanctuary where you can unwind and connect with nature.
The guest rooms at Eileen's Trees Inn are set in beautiful tropical gardens and you’ll find a bar, small lounge area, and dining room in a rustic wooden building reminiscent of a treehouse. There are 20 rooms en-suite single, double, triple and family room is possible on request. The rooms are spacious and comfortable privately situated throughout lush gardens. Each room has twin beds or a large (queen size) bed with mosquito nets. All rooms have a writing desk and seating on the veranda. The bathrooms have a large shower with hot water on demand. Bottled drinking water is provided in every room.
Serengeti Heritage Luxury Tented Camp provides its guests with the most authentic Africa experience due to its colonial, old days hunter’s camp ambience. Sitting snugly in a clearing surrounded by Acacia trees its 13 spacious walk-in tents creates an intimate atmosphere for only 40 guests while indulging them with the amenities of a big lodge, as all tents are equipped with running water, flush toilets, hot and cold water shower. In order to protect its amazing environment, the camp runs entirely on solar energy in terms of electricity and hot water supply. A backup generator is only used to ensure electricity supply throughout rainy days.
Ideally located on the edge of the Ngorongoro crater rim, Rhino Lodge offers a perfect base from which to explore the Ngorongoro Crater and its surroundings. After 21:00 the generator is switched off and a limited amount of electricity is available from the storage batteries for lighting. After dark please be careful and never walk around the grounds unless you are accompanied by a member of the staff. One of the Askaris (watchmen) will accompany you to and from the dining room. They are also on duty throughout the night should you require assistance.
You will be picked up from the airport by the representative and transported to your accommodations in Arusha, where you will stay overnight, relax, and prepare for your adventures to come. Arusha Planet Lodge is an oasis of calm and aesthetic pleasure.
After breakfast, you will be met at your accommodations by your safari guide and then drive to Lake Manyara National Park. This is a relatively small but diverse park situated 120 km west of Arusha. The park's namesake is a shallow salt lake. It covers a large area of the park, floods and dries with the seasons, and is home to thousands of flamingos and over 500 other bird species.
During your park explorations, you will see monkeys, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant and, with some luck, lions lounging on the trees. The park is known for its diverse landscapes. It not only has grassy plains, but also primate-filled woodlands and baobab dotted cliffs.
After an extensive game drive through the park, you will head towards your nearby accommodations at one of the luxurious, mid-range partner lodges. Your lodging has been carefully selected by for quality. You can dine in an expansive restaurant, relax by the pool, and rest in a spacious and comfortable room.
After breakfast, you will continue towards the fertile highlands where wheat, coffee, and corn are grown by the Iraqw people. Passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will be able to see the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater before traveling onwards to the Serengeti, which you will reach by midday.
Serengeti National Park is the largest park in Tanzania. It features diverse landscapes and habitats, such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah, and mountains. The biggest wildebeest and zebra migration takes place here and, depending on the season, you may witness thousands of animals on their search for food and water.
After an extensive game drive, you will head to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.
Full day game drive in Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti is the habitat for an abundance of wildlife, including impalas, buffalo, crocodiles, and hippos, but is best known for its great migrating herds of zebras and wildebeest. The animals' trek is determined by the rainfall and varies from year to year.
In November and December, the animals move from the northern region, dominated by woodlands and hills, to the grassy plains of the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June, they return to the north.
Apart from the migrating herds, you might have the chance to see predators, such as leopards, cheetahs, and lions, always lurking close by.
This will be your final day spent in the Serengeti, or the "endless plain" as it is called in Maasai, the tongue of the local Maasai people. This is truly one of the most spectacular places on Earth. Continue to enjoy the wide range of animals and birds. By now you will be an expert! The guide will make sure to take you to best locations for game viewing.
After an early breakfast, you will head out for another game drive in the Serengeti. You might be able to spot the "Big Five" - lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard - before embarking on your journey to the Ngorongoro Crater. The animals roam freely through the unfenced reserves, offering you an uninterrupted game viewing experience.
Arriving at the edge of the crater, you will have your first glimpse of what awaits you the following day - glistening streams, open grassland, and an infinite number of animals. You will have dinner and spend the night at one of the mid-range partner lodges.
After a hearty breakfast, you will drive down the adventurous track into the crater. This UNESCO world heritage site, formed millions of years ago, is 610 m deep and covers roughly 260 square kilometres. Due to its dense animal population of approximately 25,000, the crater offers the best game viewing of all the parks in Tanzania. In a matter of minutes, you will be able to see wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, elephants, and some of the more than 500 bird species native to the area. With a little bit of luck, you might catch a glimpse of the endangered black rhino through the grass.
After lunch, you will ascend the steep walls of the crater and head to your accommodations at one of the carefully selected mid-range partner lodges in Karatu. You will eat dinner in the expansive and tasteful restaurant, soothe yourself with a swim in the pool, and make the most of your spacious room to fuel your dreams of wild cats!
After breakfast, you will drive to your final destination on this epic safari: Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is well known for its large elephant herds. From the open roof of the vehicle, you will experience the seasonal swamps, savannah, and Tarangire River in search of many animals - including zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant, and giraffe. It's possible that you will catch a glimpse of a lion stalking its prey or leopards watching and relaxing in the trees above.
After an extensive game drive through the park, you will head back to Arusha.
On this safari you will visit Lake Manyara, Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Serengeti National Park.
The wildebeest migration Mara river crossing beginning July moves north and passes through the Lobo and the Wagakuria area en-route to Masai Mara National Reserve. In September, the wildebeest herds are spread out over the northern Serengeti National Park and Masai Mara National Reserve. Several large herds of wildebeest remain behind in the area and weather changes may sometimes bring the herds back into the area from the Mara. In October, the herds move south towards the central Serengeti National Park.
