Full-day mokoro safari
When you get to the mokoro station you will be taken in a mokoro by professional and knowledgeable guides and Mokoro polers. The activities include watching wildlife from the water and walking on the island, which gives you the best chance to discover and learn about traditional medicinal trees and herbs which were used in the past by the inhabitants of those islands. You will navigate the delta through the papyrus and tall grass, have a chance to swim at designated areas, and even learn how to navigate a mokoro.
You will have a chance to see different species of aquatic wildlife and land animals in close proximity. All meals are provided. For the mokoro full-day trip, the trip will end around 16:00 in Maun.
Itinerary
Day 1
After breakfast, Travel Creations Botswana will pick you up from your place of stay around 7 a.m. and will transfer you to the Mokoro station in a 4-wheel drive open-sided safari vehicle, the ride is approximately a one-hour drive. Upon arrival, you will meet your qualified guide provided by the community. He/she will pole you along the water channels looking for wildlife and bird species that inhabit the Delta.
There are no facilities out there as you camp on an island chosen by your guide. Upon arrival, your guide will take you for a game walk where you can enjoy awesome sightings while your camp is being made, and upon arrival at the camp, you will find lunch ready. After lunch, you may enjoy a siesta moment in camp to avoid the mid-day heat. Your accommodation will be a 3 x 3-meter dome tent and comfortable bedding.
Day 2
An early morning game walk will be available after breakfast and upon returning to the camp, you will have some snacks. After lunch, you will go to your mokoros and go through the channels of intricate veins of waterways which interconnect the lagoons, where you will see a lot of aquatic birds and animals, such as hippos and crocodiles, your guide will find a safe location where swimming is possible in the waters of the Okavango Delta, followed by a chance to learn how to pole a mokoro.
You can ask your guide about the area and the flora and fauna, while you are relaxing around the campfire under the starlit African sky. This trip is mainly for those who want to see the Okavango waterways, have a Delta experience, and enjoy the scenery.
Day 3
After breakfast, pole your way back to the Mokoro station with periodic stops for game viewing, upon arrival at the station, you will be land-transferred to Maun, arriving at your place of stay in the late afternoon. End of safari.
