Program

Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara National Reserve

Your adventure begins with a departure from the bustling city of Nairobi as you head towards the revered Maasai Mara National Reserve. The drive itself is part of the adventure, with views of rolling hills and local villages dotting the landscape. After a brief stop at the edge of the Great Rift Valley, offering panoramic vistas that stretch as far as the eye can see, the journey continues to the Mara. Upon arrival at the campsite nestled within the reserve, you will have the opportunity to relax and settle in before embarking on your first exhilarating afternoon game drive. As the sun starts to dip towards the horizon, you will return to camp for a hearty meal and an evening spent under the stars, sharing stories of the day's sightings. Dinner and overnight stay at Lenchada Tourist Camp, or somewhere comparable

Day 2: Exploring Maasai Mara National Reserve

With the dawn chorus as your alarm clock, the second day is dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of the Maasai Mara. You'll venture out after breakfast on a full-day game drive, equipped with a picnic lunch, to explore the extensive grasslands and acacia woodlands. This reserve is not only a wildlife haven but also plays host to the annual Great Migration, a natural spectacle featuring millions of wildebeest and zebras. Throughout the day, you'll be in search of Mara's diverse inhabitants, from pride of lions to solitary leopards, and perhaps even witness a hunt in action. As the evening approaches, you'll return to your camp, recounting the day's adventures and looking up at the vast African night sky. Dinner and overnight stay at Lenchada Tourist Camp, or somewhere comparable

Day 3: Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru National Park

Bidding farewell to the Maasai Mara, your journey continues towards the picturesque Lake Nakuru National Park. Known for its birdlife, the park's centerpiece is the alkaline Lake Nakuru, which attracts vast numbers of flamingos and other water birds. The park is also a sanctuary for both black and white rhinos and offers a higher chance of spotting these endangered species. After setting up at another inviting campsite, you'll head out into the park for an afternoon game drive, exploring the diverse ecosystems that range from lake shores to forest and grasslands. Keep your camera ready for not only the birds but also the sizable populations of giraffes, warthogs, and baboons that call this park home. Dinner and stay at Citymax Hotel or a comparable establishment.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park to Nairobi

On your final morning, you'll greet the sunrise with an early game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. This is your chance to soak in the tranquility of the morning and observe the wildlife in their most active hours. After returning to the campsite for breakfast and packing up, you'll begin the journey back to Nairobi. As you drive, reflect on the memories made and the stunning landscapes that have been the backdrop to an incredible four days of adventure. Your arrival in Nairobi marks the end of the safari, but the experiences and connections made will stay with you forever.

Location

Maasai Mara National Reserve

The Maasai Mara is an African safari at its most iconic, a seemingly endless landscape filled with the drama of nature. Predators are thrillingly abundant and the big cats define the rhythm on the plains every single day. Ungulates are diverse and plentiful, and astonishing numbers of four-hooved animals cross the grasslands. Then there are the other giants, the elephants, giraffe, buffalo, hippos, even the elusive black rhino.

This vast expansive unfenced savannah grassland covering over 1,500 square kilometers is a true wildlife haven. The Mara is also home to the richest concentration of wildlife, including the “Big Five” (elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffalos), zebras, antelope, gnus, Oribis, hyenas, giraffes, warthogs, gazelles, hartebeests, hippos, crocodiles, and other. The park has the largest concentration of African lions, including the black-maned lion.

Birdlife is as plentiful as wildlife at the Maasai Mara, which boasts over 400 different bird species. The Maasai Mara provides the best view of the famous wildebeest migration as the animals cross the Mara River between July and August. The park experiences a hot and dry climate with a regular rainfall season twice a year. The reserve’s topography is mainly open savannah (grassland) with clusters of acacia trees along the southeastern area of the park. The Mara and Talek rivers grace the rolling plains of the reserve. Myriad seasonal rivers appear during the rainy season but dry out once the rains are gone.

Lake Nakuru National Park

Lake Nakuru National Park is approximately 164 kilometers from Nairobi, a two-hour drive from Nairobi city. It is a gentle undulating terrain with open bush and woodlands, typical of the dry Rift Valley vegetation. 27% of the park is composed of the Lake Nakuru waters. The park has a large reserve of over 400 species of birds, which makes it an ideal site for bird lovers. The park is also a sanctuary of rhinoceros with approximately 45 black and 31 white rhinoceros and Rothschild's giraffe.
