Days 1 - 2: Moremi Game
This nine-night mobile camping journey will take you through Botswana’s famous regions. During morning and late afternoon drives, your guide will alternate between Savute Marsh, the Savute Channel, and the Hills. Anything can happen on the Savute Marsh. The guide will explain to you how this complex ecosystem is so self-sustaining year after year. Your safari representative will be there to welcome you on arrival at Maun Airport. The exact departure time from Maun Airport will be advised closer to the time, as this depends on the commercial airline flight schedules. Expect to leave Maun and begin your journey around lunchtime, where you head to Moremi Game Reserve, stopping for a picnic lunch en route, and arriving at your campsite in time for sundowners.
Spending your first two nights camping in the Xakanaxa or third Bridge region, you explore the surrounding wilderness on game drives during the day. The Moremi Game Reserve forms part of the unique ecosystem called the Okavango Delta, and Moremi covers up to one-third of the Okavango. The total area of the Okavango covers up to 18,000 square kilometers, of which the Moremi Game Reserve is 5000 square kilometers.
Days 3 - 5: Khwai Concession - Okavango Delta
Following an early breakfast, you pack camp and continue your journey to Khwai, stopping for a picnic lunch en route. The Khwai River forms a boundary between the reserve and the community area. You spend the next three nights camping at a campsite in the community area, exploring the Khwai floodplains on game drives both during the day and at night. Here, you will also enjoy a two-and-a-half-hour Mokoro trip (dug-out canoe)exploring the waterways of Khwai, which is the most eastern reach of the Okavango river system.
Exploring after dark with spotlights offers you a unique opportunity to experience some of the nocturnal animals that are rarely encountered during the day. It is important to note that night drives are not permitted within the national parks and reserves. These activities are conducted outside the boundaries of the Moremi Game Reserve in the Khwai community area. The guide will explain to you how this complex ecosystem is so self-sustaining year after year.
Days 6 - 8: Savuti Chobe National Park
You head further north en route to Chobe National Park, where you spend the following three nights camping in a wilderness campsite in the Savute region, exploring the desert-like landscape on game drives. The Savute Channel and Marsh have a fickle water supply as the channel flows and stops for no visible reason, but the animals are either drawn to the channel or the waterholes around the region.
Savute has for the last 30 years been an extremely dry area, and lately its claim to fame has been the lion and elephant interaction as they come for the few drops of water that remain in the waterholes. These dynamics are ever-changing with the unpredictable supply of water, who knows what will happen.
Days 9 - 10: Chobe River Front, Chobe National Park
Leaving this parched landscape, you continue your journey north to the contrasting Chobe region of the park. You spend the last two nights camping in a wilderness campsite near the Chobe River, exploring the riverbanks and surrounding flood plains on game drives. On day 10, you will also enjoy an afternoon boat cruise on the Chobe River, which departs from Kasane. Departure will be at 5:00 p.m.
