Accommodation
You will be accommodated at Mara Sopa Lodge in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge in Lake Nakuru National Park, and Lake Naivasha Resort in Lake Naivasha National Park.
Mara Sopa Lodge
The lodge is located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills. It was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, a reason why its gardens and trees are so lush and mature.
All the buildings follow the design of traditional African round houses with conical roofs, and these stretch along the line of the hills with the impressively large public area buildings and the swimming pool at their center.
Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge
The lodge is located on a range of hills that form the western limits of Africa’s Great Rift Valley. It offers spectacular views over the vastness of Africa and also overlooks Lake Nakuru and its surrounding national park, one that is a paradise for bird watchers and wildlife lovers alike.
Lake Nakuru National Park is mainly a wooded and bushy grassland with a wide ecological diversity and characteristic habitats that range from the lake waters to the escarpment and ridges.
Lake Naivasha Resort
The lodge is set on one hundred and fifty acres of grassland studded with acacia bushes and trees. It is not only home to the resident giraffe, waterbuck, and both vervet and colobus monkeys, but it is also a night stop for the hippos when they leave the lake every night to go and trim the grass on the expansive lawns.
With Sopa’s traditional and conscientious care for the environment, they carefully positioned all the buildings on their property so as not to cut down any of the many trees there. As a result of this, they had to come up with a radically innovative and artistic design for the main public area building, which now snakes its way between the trees with long and graceful curves.
It is also just why the two swimming pools with a children’s section and a pool complex with its bar, snack kitchen, pizzeria, and health spa, the tennis court, the two conference halls with their four differently sized meeting areas, and the stables are so widely set apart.
Program
Day 1: Nairobi - Maasai Mara National Reserve
You will be picked up from the hotel or your residence in Nairobi, then head southward to the viewpoint of the Great Rift Valley for a brief stopover to view the escarpment. Continue to Narok, a small Maasai town, for lunch.
Proceed to Maasai Mara, then check into your lodge for a brief refreshment, followed by an afternoon game drive at the game reserve, which is Kenya's finest wildlife sanctuary. Including migrants, well over 450 species of animals have been recorded there.
Although July, August, and September are the months when the Mara plains are filled with migrating wildebeest and zebras, there is also resident wildlife year-round. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Mara Sopa Lodge.
Day 2: Maasai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, a full day will be spent game viewing across the rich, tree-studded grassland and rolling hills. The famous Mara is renowned for its great herds of plain game, black-maned lions, leopards, and cheetahs, but also contains numerous elephants and virtually every type of wildlife to be found in Kenya.
Lunch will be served at the park by the Mara River, the border between Kenya and Tanzania, and the scene for the yearly wildebeest and zebra migration. Continue with your game drive, covering the park into sections, then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Maasai Mara National Reserve - Lake Nakuru National Park
You will have a pre-breakfast game drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve. Return to the lodge for a late breakfast, and then leave your lodge and proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving late in the afternoon. You will have a game drive en route. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge.
Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park - Lake Naivasha National Park
Have an early morning game drive in search of leopards and rhinos, returning to the lodge for breakfast. Check out after breakfast and continue to Lake Naivasha Bird Sanctuary, arriving at Lake Naivasha's top camp at midday for lunch.
Lake Naivasha is one of the Great Rift Valley's jewels, reflecting the tranquil beauty of the African sky and the surrounding mountains. The lake's color is temporarily distorted as flocks of graceful flamingos and pink-backed pelicans settle on the water. Relax after lunch at the lodge and get the chance to enjoy its facilities and optional activities on offer. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge.
Day 5: Lake Naivasha - Nairobi
After breakfast, check out and depart by road back to Nairobi.
