The Ark Lodge

Set in the heart of the Aberdare National Park, iconic and yes, quirky, The Ark overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick, which attracts a host of awesome wildlife. Modeled after Noah's Ark, The Ark has 4 viewing decks with balconies and lounges to provide superb game viewing from the comfort of the lodge.

Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge

Located on a range of hills that form the western limits of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, the lodge offers spectacular views over the vastness of Africa. The lodge also overlooks Lake Nakuru and its surrounding national park, one that is a paradise for bird watchers and wildlife lovers alike.

The lodge is equipped with has a complete facilities such as babysitting, gift shop, swimming pool, bars, hairdryers, telephones, board games, laundry, triples (available on request), catering for special diets, nature walks, turndown service, children's menu, outdoor dining, weddings, conferences, personal mini-bars, Wi-Fi, sundowners, and wheelchair accessible rooms.

Program

All transport and game drive on road safaris will be in a Minibus (six guaranteed window seats) with an English speaking safari guide on a shared basis. Please collaborate with Arlom Safaris to make your trip successful.

Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi - Nyeri

Upon arrival at the airport, you will meet Arlom Safaris' representative and depart north for Aberdare Country Club for checking in and lunch. After lunch, you will be transferred to The Ark with the lodge's vehicle for your dinner and overnight. All game viewing activities will be at the lodge.

Day 2: Nyeri - Lake Nakuru National Park

You will have breakfast and thereafter drive to Lake Nakuru National Park with a brief stopover at Nyahururu Thomsons Falls for taking photos. Then you will go further to Lake Nakuru where you will check in and have a game drive en route to Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge for lunch. Afterward, you will have an afternoon game drive.

Lake Nakuru National Park is known as a Ramsar bird site, specifically founded for the protection of the black and white rhino. This park is also home for more than 450 species of birds, including the lesser and greater flamingos, pelicans, African fish eagles, and many others. You will have dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge.

Day 3: Lake Nakuru National Park - Maasai Mara National Reserve

You will have breakfast and thereafter drive further southwest through the floor of the Great Rift Valley with a stopover at the hometown of Maasai herdsmen. You will arrive at Mara Sopa Lodge for lunch.

Afterward, you will have an afternoon game drive in the vast Maasai Mara National Reserve plains in search for the predators such as the lions with dark manes, cheetahs, leopards, and many herbivores, especially during the yearly migration of wildebeests between July to September. Dinner and overnight will be at Mara Sopa Lodge.

Day 4: Maasai Mara National Reserve

You will have an optional balloon flight in the early morning, an optional full day in Maasai Mara National Reserve dedicated to early morning, mid-morning, and afternoon game drives, or full day game viewing depending on one's choice. You will also have an optional visit to Maasai village. All meals and overnight will be at Mara Sopa Lodge.

Day 5: Maasai Mara National Reserve - Nairobi

You will have breakfast and then depart for Nairobi to arrive at your hotel or airport for your onward travel arrangements.

Park rules (wildlife code)

  • Respect the privacy of the wildlife, this is their habitat.
  • Beware of the animals, they are wild and can be unpredictable.
  • Don't crowd the animals or make sudden noises or movements.
  • Don't feed the animals, it upsets their diet and leads to human dependence.
  • Keep quiet, noise disturbs the wildlife and may antagonize your fellow visitors.
  • Stay in your vehicle at all times, except at designated picnic or walking areas.
  • Keep below the maximum speed limit (40 kilometers per hour / 25 miles per hour).
  • Never drive off-road, this severely damages the habitat.
  • When viewing wildlife, keep a minimum distance of 20 meters and pull to the side of the road so as to allow others to pass.
  • Leave no litter and never leave fires unattended or discard burning objects.
  • Respect the cultural heritage of Kenya, never take pictures of the local people or their habitat without asking their permission, respect the cultural traditions of Kenya and always dress with decorum.
  • Stay over or leave before dusk, visitors must vacate the Park between 18:00 to 6:00 unless they are camping overnight. Night game driving is not allowed.

Location

This program will start and end in Nairobi, Kenya. Furthermore, your tour will include a journey in Aberdare National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, and Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.

Kenya is two hours ahead of Middle European Time in winter and an hour in summer and three hours ahead of GMT in winter and two hours in summer.

Additionally, Kenyans are naturally friendly and Kenya is the most child-friendly country. The people speaks Kiswahili as the lingua franca and English as the official language, while most tribes have their own language.

Nearly all camps and lodges accept children except for a few small or remote camps and lodges which may not allow small children as they will not always have the patience to remain quiet and not to disturb the wildlife whilst on safari or for other safety considerations.

Food

You will be served breakfasts, lunches, and dinners during this program. Food in all Kenya's hotels and lodges is generally of a high standard and the service is excellent. Many quality restaurants abound in Nairobi and at the coast. Indian, Italian, Brazilian, German, Chinese, Japanese, as well as specialty Meat Cavalries and seafood restaurants are all to be found.

Always choose food that has been freshly and thoroughly cooked and served hot. Also, avoid doubtful buffet food or anything that has been reheated or left exposed to flies. Do not be afraid to reject food you consider unsafe, to ask for something to be prepared specially, or to skip a meal.
