Accommodation

You will be staying in various accommodations provided by Alibaba Tours and Safaris. You will overnight at Voi Safari Lodge on the first night and at Salt Lick Lodge on the second night of the safari. Meanwhile, on the third night, you will overnight at either Amboseli Kibo Safari Camp or Sentrim Amboseli Lodge.

Voi Safari Lodge

Perched on the top of a cliff-faced hill, Voi Safari Lodge is uniquely designed to be a hinge-like structure overlooking Kenya's Tsavo East plains extending as far as the undulating terrain of the Yatta Plateaus. This vantage positioning of the lodge has made it a stopover for many safari adventures, nature lovers, and holidaymakers who are assured of sampling Kenya's wildlife attractions that continuously beat a track to the three water holes sunk by the ledge below the cliff.

The lodge is also popular with the travelers who pass along the Mombasa - Nairobi highway. It is located 165 kilometers from Mombasa and has the advantage of being within a park that is served with a good infrastructure including communication facilities. Voi Safari Lodge has 52 en-suite standard rooms with three stories and stands in proud contrast to its rocky surroundings.

Voi Safari Lodge's swimming pool has a view of wildlife at the waterholes and the plains beyond. The unique dug up rock swimming pool has crystal clear water which invites to a refreshing dip after a dusty day on Kenya safari. Voi Safari Lodge also has a restaurant serving good food on a buffet basis and a well-stocked bar with smashing views. The surroundings of the lodge are dotted by wild and planted flora that stand out beautifully and liven up the rocky terrain.

Kibo Safari Camp

Kibo Safari Camp is set at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro (5,896 meters) which is the highest freestanding mountain in the world and topped by one-fifth of all the ice in Africa in the famous Amboseli National Park, Kenya. Kibo Safari Camp is a luxury tented camp situated within the Amboseli National Park. The camp incorporates an open terraced restaurant and bar under acacia trees overlooking the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro and a beautiful swimming pool that has been landscaped within.

Each tent at the Kibo Safari Camp comes with a double bed or two single beds depending on your needs. There are family tents that can take a maximum party of eight in comfort. There is also a small porch / veranda with seats and a coffee table. All tents are electrically lighted by power supplied from a generator on site. Kibo Safari Camp's emphasis is placed on the experience of dining in the wild. Although meals are provided in a covered restaurant and drinks in a traditional bar, visitors are kept very close to the action by providing large open areas with seats and tables on them. In this way, you are always right there in the wild.

Sentrim Amboseli Lodge

Sentrim Amboseli Lodge is located 280 kilometers south of Nairobi, 260 kilometers north of Mombasa, and deep inside the Amboseli National Park, making access to the park's renowned elephants, buffaloes, wildebeest, zebra, giraffes, impalas, and several predators very easy. Sentrim Amboseli Lodge offers 60 modern tents with a private view of Mount Kilimanjaro. All tents at the Sentrim Amboseli Lodge feature soft beds, en-suite bathroom with a steaming hot shower, washbasin, and flush toilets. Other facilities include coffee and tea making facilities, fridge, fan, hair drier, and electronic safe deposit boxes.

Sentrim Amboseli Lodge's main dining room has a sitting capacity of 120 but meals can also be enjoyed at your private veranda as well as the spacious lounge and bar area. Surrounded by a shady sunbathing area is Sentrim Amboseli Lodge's swimming pool and Jacuzzi. They are a welcome sight in this arid land.

Location

This safari will take place at various locations in Kenya including Tsavo East National Park, Amboseli National Park, and Taita Hills. While on this safari, you might also see some physical attractions of the national parks such as Tsavo River, Yatta Plateau, Mudanda Rock, Lugard's Falls, Voi's seasonal river and Aruba Dam, savannah plains, and the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.

Tsavo East National Park

Tsavo East National Park is part of the Greater Tsavo National Park that includes Tsavo East and West National Parks and the Chyulu Hills. This park consists mostly of miles and miles of dry flat thorn-bush, semi-arid acacia scrub, and narrow woodland dominated by acacia. Wonderful baobab trees are also a common sight in the park. Tsavo East is located about 200 kilometers southeast of Nairobi on the main Nairobi - Mombasa road.

Tsavo East has a wide diversity of habitats ranging from bushy grasslands, open plains, rocky outcrops, semi-arid acacia scrub, and woodlands. Swampy marshlands occur near the Voi River. This has made it possible to host a wide variety of wildlife. Though big in size, some parts of Tsavo East are not open to tourist over the years but today, restricted access is allowed. The north of Galana River is a true wilderness.

There are over 500 bird species that have been recorded in Tsavo East National Park including the ostrich and migratory birds like kestrels and buzzards. Tsavo East is also home to all of the Big Five including large amounts of "red" elephants, black rhinoceros, buffaloes, and lions. Plains game include giraffes, antelopes, zebras, buffaloes, waterbucks, etc.

Furthermore, the major attractions in Tsavo East National Park include Yatta Plateau (one the world's largest and longest lava flow which is 300 kilometers long), Lugard's Falls and the Galana River (easy access to the rapids with a possibility to spot majestic landscapes along the river), Mudanda Rock (an outcrop rock of 1.6 kilometers long with a large dam at its base wherein there is a possibility to walk on the top of the rock, enjoy the cool breeze, and watch wildlife drinking in the dam), and Aruba Dam (built in 1952 across the Voi River, this dam attracts many bird species and migratory species).

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park is located 240 kilometers southeast of Nairobi near the border to Tanzania on the northwestern foot of the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro. This park is best known for the excellent views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Amboseli National Park embodies five main wildlife habitats (open plains, acacia woodland, rocky thorn bush country, swamps, and marshland). Amboseli is a place of stark contrast. The name "Amboseli" means "salty dust" in Maa which is the language of the Maasai.

The park provides the classic Hollywood image of Africa. Set in rolling savannah scenery, the park is dwarfed by the presence of the pink-tinged, snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. Amboseli, despite its sometimes dry and dusty appearance, has an endless water supply filtered through thousands of feet of volcanic rock from Kilimanjaro's ice cap. Amboseli National Park covers 392 square kilometers and lies at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s’ highest mountain.

Amboseli National Park has over 50 species of large mammals including leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, buffaloes, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions, plains game, crocodiles, mongooses, hyraxes, dik-diks, lesser kudus, and nocturnal porcupines. Most of all, Amboseli National Park is famous for its huge herds of elephant which roam the park freely. With its awesome view of Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa's highest mountain at 5,895 meters), Amboseli National Park offers a unique and breathtaking backdrop for viewing Africa's animals.

One of the major attractions in Amboseli National Park is the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro which is the highest mountain in Africa. Then, there is the Observation Hill which allows an overall view of the whole park especially the swamps and elephants. The swamp below Observation Hill hosts many elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and a variety of water fowls like the pelican and Egyptian goose. Amboseli is home to the Maasai people, so a village tour will open you up to contemporary Maasai culture and indigenous lifestyle.
