Witness the great migration at the Mara River crossing with this safari package! This seven-day Mara River Crossing safari takes you into the northern Serengeti and offers the best chance of seeing death-defying leaps and heart-wrenching near misses as you spend multiple nights and days in the world-famous Serengeti National Park.
Nestled in the heart of Arusha, Planet Lodge will captivate you with the natural beauty of the Tanzanian landscape. Their unique African village-styled accommodations offer you a peaceful sanctuary where you can unwind and connect with nature.
Located between Karatu Town and Rhotia Village, Marera Valley Lodge is close to the main road to Ngorongoro and Serengeti. Lovely country setting and beautifully landscaped, the lodge offers 19 spacious cottages with views and private decks.
Serengeti Heritage Luxury Tented Camp provides its guests with the most authentic African experience due to its colonial, old days hunter’s camp ambiance. Sitting snugly in a clearing surrounded by Acacia trees its 13 spacious walk-in tents create an intimate atmosphere for only 40 guests while indulging them with the amenities of a big lodge, as all tents are equipped with running water, flush toilets, hot and cold water shower.
To protect its amazing environment, the camp runs entirely on solar energy in terms of electricity and hot water supply. A backup generator is only used to ensure electricity supply throughout rainy days.
The Heritage Mara Camp in Kogatende is about 20 minutes from the Mara River, on the outskirts of the Northern Serengeti zone. It is a fantastic site to see herds of wildebeest cross the river. Even so, it is far enough away from the main road to allow for remote game viewing. The camp is situated on a hill, surrounded by huge evergreen trees, with sweeping views of the Northern Serengeti. The camp is open from July to November, when millions of wildebeest migrate across the Northern Serengeti, to cross the Mara River.
The best time to visit this camp is in July and stay until the middle of November. This luxurious, cozy camp features really beautiful bell tents and is true African glamping in every way. All meals are three-course affairs served in a camp kitchen by a chef. The diversity and richness of animals seen here, including the Big Five and the yearly wildebeest migration, is unrivaled anyplace else in Africa.
With high-quality canvas between your comfortable bed and the sounds of the African night, these camps provide the ideal lodging for lovers of the great outdoors, while retaining the coziness of a warm bed, a hot shower, delicious food, and a friendly staff.
The high drama of a river crossing at the Mara River is arguably the highlight of the wildebeest migration, a stunning life-and-death display as hundreds of thousands of wildebeest brave the treacherous currents and lurking crocodiles in a last-ditch attempt to reach the safety of the Maasai Mara in Kenya.

The safari will take place in Tanzania.
Tarangire is home to the largest elephant herds in the north of Tanzania. Giraffes, buffaloes, lions, zebras, wildebeests as well as various antelopes and gazelles can also be spotted here. The landscape is made up of seasonal marshes and a seemingly endless tree savannah with its mighty baobab trees.
Kogatende area has carnivores and large migration groups that will be preparing to cross the Mara River into Kenya. Home to large numbers of hippos and Nile crocodiles, the Mara River is the last major obstacle standing between the Wildebeest Migration and the relative safety of the Masai Mara. If you are patient and a little lucky, you may even get to witness the death-defying crossing itself where wildebeest and zebras brave the river’s currents and crocodiles in an attempt to reach safety on the opposite bank.
As far as the eye can see, you will spot thousands upon thousands of animals in herds; wildebeests and zebras migrating together, tall and graceful giraffes, jumping antelopes and gazelles, the powerful African elephant and the most respected group of animals: the predators. You will have the chance to spot lean cheetahs and shy leopards, foraging hyenas, and last but not least, the king himself; the lion.
