Day 1: Hello Khwai
Pick up from guests' respective hotels in Maun will be at 9 a.m. to set off on your Khwai adventure in hopes to get there by 12:00 noon. You will stop at the park gate for tea while the guide deals with park access admin, before setting off into the Moremi Game Reserve.
You will take time to explore the park as the guide explains the different vegetation and its role in the ecosystem. You will break off for a light lunch at one of the watering holes to enjoy the herds of animals that will be coming down to quench their thirst. After your lunch, you will continue to make some rounds in search of some animals, as you make your way to your campsite in Khwai on the edge of Moremi Game Reserve late afternoon.
Upon arrival at the camp, you will be welcomed into your home for the next 2 nights with a drink and then be ushered to your various tents to freshen up. You will be treated to a hot shower in the privacy of your en-suite tent and proceed to enjoy your campfire dinner. It is during this time when the team will share some of the cultural heritage through storytelling.
Day 2: Magotho game drive
- Game drive in Magotho (Khwai community concession) in the morning and then sundowner along Khwai river in the afternoon
Rise and shine to a brand-new day to discover and explore the amazing sites of the Khwai. You will start your day with a cup of coffee before you head out on an early morning game drive in order to catch the early birds as they rise as well as the breathtaking sunrise of Khwai then head out to Magotho, an area housing giant acacia trees popularly known as camel thorn. In this area there is abundant wildlife.
You will pick a spot and settle for a picnic brunch that the chef packed for you, as you take-in the sights and sounds of Magotho. The post bush brunch will be followed by a leisurely drive along the river as you head back to camp for a short siesta.
Subsequently a late afternoon game drive will be in order for sundowners along the Khwai river where you will catch the breath-taking sunset. Expect to see various nocturnal animals as they welcome the night. From the Khwai riverfront you will head back to camp where you will be tantalized by the chef’s amazing culinary skills through your dinner.
Day 3: Welcome to Mababe
On this exciting morning, camp will be taken down and ready to move to Mababe. You say goodbye to this exquisite wild place after breakfast. You will drive leisurely from Khwai to Mababe as you explore a wide range of wildlife and birds through your journey to the next camp.
You will stop to enjoy your packed lunch while getting an amazing view of the landscapes. You will arrive at the Mababe camp and relax around the campfire while playing some traditional games and learning how to make fire with sticks while you wait to be served with a warm dinner. After dinner guests can look forward to the siteseeing in the dark, in search of hyena dens. The unfamiliar scenery often described as exhilarating.
Day 4: Visit to Savuti game drive
After breakfast early in the morning you head out to Savuti for to see the beautiful historical rock paintings at Ghoha hills. Along the way you will see a lot of wild animals such as elephants, wild dog and maybe some jackals.
While exploring Savuti you will stop at one of the lagoons for lunch. You will continue your expedition in Savuti through flat plains and watering holes then make your way back to Mababe. Upon return to the camp you will get to relax and unwind until dinner which will be served around the fire with the guide and hosts sharing the rich cultural heritage of this area.
Day 5: Heading to Boro to start the mokoro activity
Camp will be taken down in the morning after breakfast before you head out to Boro. The game viewer will allow you to see the different scenery along the way. You will then pass by Shorobe, where you will learn basket weaving from the indigenous people where you will then set lunch up under the trees enjoying the wild scenery and just have a peaceful siesta moment. Arrival at camp in Xaoo camp is expected to be in the late afternoon.
After this heartwarming experience you head to Boro Mokoro station for a trip into the Okavango Delta where you will cruise and enjoy the tranquility of the Okavango Delta in a mokoro (dugout canoe). Upon arrival at camp guest can take time to themselves to rest and even take showers while they wait on dinner, which will be served with a non-alcoholic drink of your choice. After dinner you will sit around the fire to learn some locally played game such as mhele and morabaraba. Guests can then go to bed or go for a nature walk before bed to relax.
Day 6: Okavango Delta
- Boat trip into the inner delta (including a short walk after lunch). Head back to refresh and then have a sundowner on the mokoro
Rise and shine to the tranquil Okavango Delta, as you head into the inner delta where you will be treated to a variety of aquatic animals from birds to crocodiles. You will stop on one of the islands for a picnic lunch followed by a safari walk then board your boat as you head back to camp for a siesta moment. Once well rested, you will then venture out on a short mokoro trip for a sundowner and sunset experience before heading back to camp for a delicious dinner, after dinner you will have activities such as traditional delta singing and dancing.
Day 7: Travelling back!
You start your morning with an early morning walk to once again connect with nature and then head back to Maun on mokoro to end tour and arrive in Maun at 12 noon. Those catching earlier flights can skip the walk and catch the boat to arrive in Maun by 9 a.m.
