Accommodation
During your African safari expedition, you will be accommodated at Tremisana Lodge and Katekani Tented Lodge.
Tremisana Lodge
Tremisana Game Lodge was a founder member of the Balule Game Reserve. Tremisana is the largest and leading lodge in this section, having a total of 15 chalets plus a two-bedroom guesthouse. It can accommodate a maximum of 40 guests. Every unit is ensuite (shower, toilet, and basin) and all units are air-conditioned. Every bed has its own mosquito net. 24-hour Wi-Fi is available to all Tremisana guests.
The lodge is serviced by two excellent boreholes. Its proximity to the tar road means Tremisana is easily accessible all year round, including the rainy season. The presence of lions, elephants, and buffaloes necessitates the maintaining of an electric fence around the camp.
Perhaps the most striking feature of Tremisana Game Lodge is the beautiful gardens. The presence of numerous bougainvilleas and various palms and cicadas gives the camp a subtropical feel. Water features add a soothing effect and the overall feel of Tremisana is very relaxing. At night, the subdued light from the illuminated paved walkways lends a romantic and magical flavor to this outstanding camp.
Katekani Tented Lodge
On a secluded piece of prime bushveld, bordering with the Big Five Kapama Game Reserve, Katekani Tented Lodge is open to the upmarket wildside Africa development. It comprises of eight beautifully appointed tented chalets. Each chalet has a thatched roof and is elevated so as to allow for spectacular views of the bushveld.
There is a private splash pool on each deck and the rustic ambiance is enhanced by liberal use of rocks and tree trunks inside the chalets. The units are air-conditioned and boast inside and outside showers. Sliding aluminum doors and windowed canvas panels blend perfectly to make this a unique state-of-the-art accommodation concept.
A modern lapa with a cozy inviting bar adds to the relaxed atmosphere and the barbecue area is conveniently located adjacent to the lapa. General game is encountered on the property and the bird life is prolific. At night, the eerie whoops of hyena mingle with the deep-throated roars of the lions.
Program
Day 1: Johannesburg - Balule Nature Reserve
Pick up from your hotel in JHB or O.R. Tambo Airport and travel via the Highveld grasslands to Tremisana Game Lodge in the Kruger Park. Board an open Land Cruiser for a 4-hour sunset drive, your first opportunity to experience the fauna and flora of Africa. Watch the magnificent African sunset and, after dark, use a spotlight to view nocturnal animals. Dinner at the Marula Tree Boma will be a bush BBQ. After dinner, continue with your night drive and overnight in en suite air conditioned chalets.
Day 2: Balule Nature Reserve
At sunrise you drive to the Olifants River for a 4-hour bush walk. Your rangers will show you many secrets of the bush. Adrenalin surges will be acute even if your rangers are adequately armed. Return to Tremisana for brunch. Relax around pool and after lunch go on an afternoon game drive. Transfer to Katekani in late evening.
Day 3: Kruger National Park
After breakfast, you drive on an open game viewer to the Orpen Gate of Kruger National Park. You will have a full day of game viewing and bird watching in this world-renowned game reserve. Return to Katekani for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Kruger National Park
Enjoy another full day in the Kruger National Park. Dinner and an overnight stay at Katekani Tented Lodge.
Day 5: Balule Game Reserve - Johannesburg
You go on a short morning walk with an armed ranger. After breakfast, drive via the Panorama Route to see the scenic splendours of Blyde River Canyon including a stop at the Three Rondavels. You return to Johannesburg in the late afternoon. Airport drop-off by arrangement.
Bush braai
The bush braai is held on the first night of your safari. Viva Safaris has acquired a 20-hectare property deep in Balule, in fact over 10 kilometers from the main gate. They have built a beautiful boma under a magnificent Marula tree which they have protected against elephants by a ring of sharp-edged rocks. They have a flush toilet and wash hand basin. Armed rangers will patrol while you enjoy a bush braai in this remote piece of Africa.
Bush walks
The bush walks are very popular in so far as the guests are afforded a brilliant opportunity to get really close to nature on foot. Guests may experience an acute adrenaline charge when in the presence of Big five animals such as elephants, lions, rhinos, and buffaloes. Guests on the bush walks are always accompanied by two armed rangers.
