Peter Geraerdts is a professional safari guide and wildlife photographer in Zambia. Peter started photography when he got introduced to the beauty of the African bush, about 15 years ago. He is currently running his own safari lodge in South Luangwa, the Track and Trail River Camp, specialized in private photographic safaris. Peter can provide the private use of a customized, specialized and fully-equipped photographic game viewer, with bean bag support systems, to help you attain those magical photographs you have always dreamed of having.
I spent a full week at Track & Trail, and left duly impressed...
Let's start with the staff: all of them are friendly, and did their utmost to make me feel comfortable. Small requests were taken care of immediately, adding just that little extra. A barkeep who remembers your favourite drinks: tiny details, but invaluable!
I had the privilege and luxury to spend a week's worth of game drives 1-on-1 with Peter: hospitality entrepreneur extraordinaire, highly knowledgeable bush guide AND gifted wildlife photographer. His constant search for the best spots and the prettiest light, combined with his mentoring helped me to bag better shots than on any of my -many- previous safaris!
Chichi's massages are highly recommended: she managed to get the stress of long months in the office AND the 8-hour-per-day shake and scuttle in the LandCruiser during the game drives out of my system in no time!
Also a special shout out to Kirsten: she and my wife sneakily arranged an unforgettable bush birthday for me...
Facilities are good, with an on-site gym, pool with river view, daily laundry service and great catering. Wifi is available in the bar/restaurant area.
I've been spoiled by three-course lunches and dinners daily, with not a single dish appearing twice during my stay! The restaurant and small bar - try the homemade ice tea! - also feature river view and offer a pleasant shadowy hideaway during the hottest hours.
Safety is good, with a small safe for valuables like cash/cards/valuables and a large padlocked chest for bulkier goods like photo equipment. An on-site nightwatchman looks after camp/lodge safety and guides you to your accommodation after dark, for that just in case hippo enounter...
And for those interested in the safari aspect of this destination: sightings were marvellous, both in AND outside the park...
I saw big cats and wild dogs, but also fighting zebras and impalas, a plethora of birds, and many smaller mammals including honey badger, porcupine, genet and civet. One of my personal highlights was watching an elephant herd cross the river just before sundown, unforgettable!

We have really enjoyed our stay in Zambia at Track and Trail River Lodge.
Perfect hospitality and kindest service of Kerstin, Peter and his entire staff.
Restaurant food and meals were great and always exceptionally tasteful.
The accommodations are very spacious, where we had a chalet with view on the river, just very special.
We often had great visits of elephant and hippos roaming around in the front garden, this is real…
The most impressive in South Luangwa is the great variety and abundance of wildlife.
We have encountered during our sorties with Peter wild dogs, lions, leopards during their hunt, you name it, we have never seen such an abundance of wildlife , just an amazing place for photographic safaris,
a place to remember and certainly not to miss, we will for sure come back soon….
I really liked it here!
A nice place with good views, good food and nice rooms.
The game viewing was excellent and I learned a lot form Peter the professional photographer there.
Made some of my best photos ever!
I booked a private photographic safari at Track & Trail River Camp. It had been a couple of years since my last trip to southern Africa, so I started this trip with fairly high expectations.
The photographic safari included 5 nights at Track & Trail (and 3 more at Zikomo in Nsefu), and everything was perfect! The staff of the camp is very friendly. Great hospitality from everyone involved.
I arrived without my luggage, which arrived a day later. But no problem, Peter (owner) and Chichi did everything to accomodate me. Many thanks!
The food and snacks at the restaurant were awesome!
Concerning accomodation: I stayed in chalet 8, a great location on the river banks of the Luangwa river. The chalet was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The chalets include a safe and the chest which can be locked and therefore perfect for equipment.
The elephants and other wildlife are all over the camp as well. Super!
All game drives within the photographic safari package were conducted by Peter. All drives ended up being amongst the best I have ever had. South Luangwa is a great game viewing area. Peter showed great enthousiasm, skill, and knowledge. Besides the actual viewing, Peter also took a lot of time and effort to focus on particular photographic skills as well as to answer all kinds of questions. The vehicle used, is well equiped for photographic safaris.
Track & Trail River Camp is highly recommendable. I had a great stay and my expectations were definitely met...or even beyond that. I hope to be able to return one day.
Many thanks again Peter!
We recently stayed for 4 nights at Track & Trail River Camp and had an exceptional experience. We had a photographic safari with Peter and learned tons of new and wonderful tips and had amazing wildlife sightings! Peter and Chichi and all the staff here are friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable.
The camp setting is superb, right on the Luangwa river. The chalets are spacious, clean, and ultra-comfortable. And wildlife everywhere!!
Overall we had a great and grand experience here and would fondly return!!
