Accommodation

The camping will be in the Chobe National Park at the exclusive wilderness sites such as HATAB or BOGA sites with no other campers nearby. If the sites are fully booked, the camping will be forced to use the public site at Ihaha, though this is very rare. Spacious walk-in tents with a bedroll and bedding (mattress, sheet duvet and pillow) will be provided. Ablutions consist of rustic open-air bucket showers and long drop style toilets.

Program

Day 1

You will go to Kazungula, Zambia where you will be escorted through the Zambian border procedures. You will then cross over to Botswana where you will meet by your guide at 08:30 and be escorted through Botswanan immigration formalities. There is an opportunity to do any last minute shopping in Kasane, Botswana, as there are no shops within the park. A short briefing will follow on safety and some regional information.

At 09:30, you will board the boat and commence a three-hour boat cruise into the Chobe National Park. The river cruise is considered one of the highlights of the trip as one will get the opportunity to see many animals and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The boat cruise will end at approximately 12:30 and the safari guide will be waiting to take you on a game drive to the wilderness campsite for lunch.

After lunch and settling into tents, you will have tea and depart for an afternoon game drive. This is the best time to see Chobe’s large animals making their way down to the river for a drink of water. You will return to the camp shortly after sunset for drinks around the campfire and dinner.

Day 2

You will be awoken at dawn with warm water being poured into basins and a friendly Botswana "dumela" (good day) greeting. After a quick cup of tea or coffee and cereal, you will head off on an early morning game drive. This will be the best time to spot big cats. Around mid to late morning, you will return to the camp for a delicious bush brunch and siesta. When the day starts to cool off, another afternoon game drive followed by tea and good sightings will be revisited or areas as yet unexplored will be visited.

Chobe National Park has a wide variety of game including the cats and large herbivores such as elephant and buffalo aside. There is also some rare game such as puku and the roan antelope. The group will return to the camp after sunset for a reflective fireside chat. Dinner will follow, as always accompanied by the unforgettable sounds of the African night.

Day 3

After another "dumela" dawn awakening and breakfast, you will have the last game drive as you will leave the national park to return to the Botswana - Zambia border and be escorted through border formalities before returning to Livingstone.

Note: All trips will have a backup team including a cook. Thabo Africa Safaris attempts to work two departures weekly, for example on Tuesdays and Fridays. In the event of groups of over six people, these set days will be flexible.
