Today, the representatives will meet you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transfer you to Serena Hotel in Nairobi for overnight. Depending on your time of arrival, they can organize for you an optional city tour or a short visit to Nairobi National Park.
Day 2: Nairobi city tour
A – Nairobi National Park:
In the early morning after breakfast, you will enjoy a visit to the Nairobi National Park for wildlife and bird watching. This is one of our most interesting wildlife viewing destinations, and only covers an area large enough for a perfect short trip. The park hosts many mammals, including African Lions, Maasai Giraffes, Common Elands, Common Zebras, Nile Hippos, Black Rhinos, White Rhinos and Cape Buffaloes. The park is also a birding haven with many beautiful species. In fact over 500 bird species are recorded in the park. The local Nile Crocodiles are also a very welcome sight. This is Kenya’s oldest National Park, located just 7 kilometres from the edge of Nairobi city center. Nairobi National Park is only 117.21 Km2 in size allowing you to sample it very well on a short safari.
B - DAVID SHELDRICK ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE
Next you will visit the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. At the orphanage you will learn about the orphaned elephants and how they got to the centre. You will also learn elephant Biology and the threats facing the species. The local education team will also teach about how the orphans are cared for until rehabilitation. Further, you will learn how you can adopt a baby elephant, if you are interested in adopting.
From here you will proceed to a local restaurant, where you will enjoy a scrumptious lunch; sampling local dishes and barbecues.
C - GIRAFFE CENTRE
After lunch, you head to the Giraffe Centre. This only takes a short drive. At the center you will meet the lovely Rothschild’s Giraffes. You will learn about the breeding program at the center and also about giraffe Biology. You will also get an opportunity to feed the giraffes from your hand, hug and even kiss these lovely “Tall Blondes”.
Day 3: Nairobi - Masai Mara
This morning, depart the hotel after breakfast and drive through the dramatic Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. This enormous reserve is actually part of the vast Serengeti plains famously known for its spectacular great wildebeest migration and is home to the Big Five: Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo, and Rhino.
Lunch at the lodge and relax before departing for the afternoon game drive. The Mara Game Reserve is one of the greatest wildernesses in the world. Large mammals are varied and easy to see. Residents in the parks are Masai Giraffe, Buffalo, Eland, and thousands of plain game including Impala, Zebra, Topi, and both Thomson’s and Grant's Gazelles.
Days 4 and 5: Full day in the Masai Mara
These two full days in the Masai Mara Game Reserve will be spared for the search for the big cats of the Masai Mara and the spectacular view of the famous migration. All of the “Big Five” animals (elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffalo) can be spotted here. Herds of plains zebras are found throughout the park.
Other animals include giraffes, jackals, gnus, warthogs, gazelles, hartebeests, hyenas, bat-eared foxes, Topi antelope, hippos, and crocodiles in the Mara River. For bird lovers, the Mara birds come in every color and size. More than 400 bird species have already been recorded, including birds of prey.
You can enjoy a colourful view of birds such as vultures, ostriches, long-crested eagles, pygmy falcons, secretary birds, marabous, red-winged Scholar’s turacos, and many others.
Day 6: Masai Mara Game Reserve - Drive to Nairobi
If you are not participating in the optional hot air balloon, you'll enjoy morning tea/coffee or hot chocolate followed by a morning game drive. On the plains are enormous herds of grazing animals plus the elusive Cheetah and leopard hiding amidst acacia trees. Return back to the lodge/camp for breakfast.
Optional visit to an authentic Masai village (at an extra cost) to witness the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. Depart the Mara by road back to Nairobi, lunch en route, and arrive in the late afternoon.
