Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Bwindi, enjoy a nature walk
Enjoy the beautiful green hills of Rwanda, called the "Land of a Thousand Hills," and Uganda, the "Pearl of Africa," on a scenic drive from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The journey takes you through lush rainforests, quiet villages, and rolling hills - with views of volcanoes along the way. Orugano Safaris' guide will pick you up from Kigali International Airport or anywhere in the city.
While gorilla trekking is the main highlight, there are many other great activities, like visiting local villages, meeting the Batwa Pygmies, bird watching, and forest walks. Don’t miss the stunning sunsets - perfect from the lodge’s veranda with a drink in hand. Once you arrive, check in at Orugano Lodge and relax. Later in the day, enjoy a walk along the beautiful Kahurire Trail with amazing views of the forest and hills.
Day 2: Gorilla trek and community cultural experience
After breakfast, you'll take a short drive to the Bwindi Forest headquarters to meet the park rangers, guides, and trackers who will lead your gorilla trek. Before starting, you'll get a safety briefing and be assigned a gorilla family to track.
The trek follows the trail of your family’s last known location and can take three to seven hours, sometimes reaching heights over 7,500 feet (2,300 meters). The trail can be muddy and steep, but your guides and porters will help make the hike easier, with plenty of breaks to enjoy the views. While the hike can be tiring, the beauty of the forest and the thrill of finding the gorillas make it truly rewarding.
Watching them eat, groom, or play is a magical experience you’ll never forget. After your time with the gorillas, return to Orugano Lodge for a shower, a change of clothes, and some well-earned rest. If you still have energy, take a peaceful walk through Nkurungo Community to see local life and enjoy the scenery. Spend the night at Orugano Lodge.
Day 3: Drive back to Kigali
Wake up to your final morning in this beautiful part of Uganda and enjoy a tasty breakfast at the lodge. Afterward, your guide or the company's representative will drive you back across the border into Rwanda, making sure you reach Kigali International Airport at least three hours before your flight. Please note that your departure flight should be scheduled for after 4 p.m. If your flight is earlier, you’ll need to stay an extra night in Kigali, Orugano Safaris can help arrange accommodation for you at an extra cost.
