Mount Meru is the third highest peak in Africa after Mt Kilimanjaro and Mt Kenya, and it is a great way to acclimatize before climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Typically, the Mount Meru climb takes four days, but it can be done in three days to complete a trek to the summit.
The mountain is located in Arusha National Park, 70 kilometers (43 miles) west of Mount Kilimanjaro in the country of Tanzania. The climb offers an opportunity to view one of the best savannas and forests that host diverse wildlife, including nearly 400 species of birds, and also monkeys and leopards. Day 1: Arrival in Arusha (pre-climbing briefing)
Your journey will begin with your arrival in the vibrant town of Arusha. Upon reaching it, settle into your chosen hotel or lodge, providing you with the comfort and rest you need before your Kilimanjaro adventure. Avocet Tanzania Safaris will arrange a convenient time for a pre-climb briefing and a thorough check of your climbing gear.
If anything is amiss, fret not. Arusha’s shops will be at your disposal for any last-minute equipment that you might need.

Day 2: Transfers to Momella Gate (altitude: 2,100 m)
Your trek will begin with a transfer to Momella Gate.
Day 3: Climb Mt. Meru via Saddle Hut (alt.: 3,570 m)
Climb to the big valley, then to Saddle Hut (alt. 3,570 m), and later, go back to Saddle Hut for dinner and overnight stay. A hike up to the Little Meru will be done in the late afternoon hours.
Day 4: Ascent to the Meru Peak (alt.: 4,566 m)
Ascend to Mt Meru peak at 4,566 m, descend to Saddle Hut, and then go to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Certificate at Momella Gate
Walk slowly to Momella Gate, arriving by 10:30. Then, transfer from Arusha town to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). The private departure transfer is included in the price.
