Uganda

Having endured some of the darkest histories in Africa, Uganda has overturned this dark history by becoming one of the leading tourist destinations in East Africa. Uganda has a lot to offer in tourism, from the highly coveted mountain gorillas, found only in East Africa, to chimpanzees among other things.

Uganda is also home to one of Africa's tallest mountain ranges, the Rwenzori Mountains, also called the Mountains of the Moon, at a height of 5,109 meters, preceded by Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania at 5,895 meters and Mount Kenya at 5,199 meters respectively. There is plenty to be explored on The Uganda tourism scene. There are 10 major national parks in the country, each with its own wonders. Explore more on a park to park basis to see what adventures lie ahead.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi National Park is about 331 square kilometers and it is a home to half of the world’s mountain gorillas, whose encounter and consequent eye contact is the most exciting and poignant wildlife encounter in the whole Africa. With mist covered hillsides, this impenetrable forest is the oldest and most biologically diverse rainforest, with over 400 species of the plants.

The park lies on the edge of the rift valley in Southwestern Uganda and protects at least 120 species of mammals, 346 species of birds, 202 species of butterflies, 163 species of trees, 100 species of ferns, and 27 species of frogs, chameleons, and geckos. It is a UNESCO designated world heritage site popular for mountain gorillas and chimpanzee, and the great African apes listed as an endangered animal in the IUCN Red Databook.
