For two nights, you will be staying at Kibo Safari Camp, a tented camp in Amboseli National Park, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. With splendid views of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, the camp has self-contained tents for single, double, triple, and family accommodation. The beds have been custom-designed and locally made using bush logs and will ensure a good night’s sleep.

All tents have flush toilets, showers, and wash basins. You can enjoy your shower as you like: bubbling hot or refreshing cold. If you fancy a romantic dinner by the pool under the stars, all meals can be taken in privacy away from the main dining area.

Program

Day 1: Nairobi - Amboseli National Park

At 08:00, you will be picked up from your Nairobi hotel and then begin your drive to Amboseli National Park. Amboseli is famous for its scenery, including the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro that dominates the landscape and looms over the open plains. You will have a short game drive upon arrival and then check-in at your camp or the lodge followed by having lunch and a short rest before proceeding on your afternoon game drive. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the camp or lodge.

Day 2: Amboseli National Park

You will spend the full day in the park exploring the abundance of wildlife here. This wide expanse of savannah and swampland includes (the generally dry) Lake Amboseli and the snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. But the crowds of elephants are Amboseli’s biggest draw. You will then head to observation hill for an amazing view of these incredible creatures. The early morning and late evening are the best time to see the elephants.

You will also have the chance to visit the Maasai people. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at the camp or lodge.

Day 3: Amboseli National Park - Nairobi

After an early morning game drive, you will return to the camp for breakfast. You will then check out and drive to Nairobi, arriving in time for lunch. If you have enough time, you can eat at the famous Carnivore Restaurant. You will then be dropped off at the airport or your hotel, which will conclude your safari.

Location

This safari will take place in Amboseli National Park, Kenya. Amboseli National Park is located about 250 kilometers from Nairobi and along the Tanzanian border. The park derives its name from the Maasai word “empusel” which means salty, dusty place. It is declared a national park in 1974 to protect its unique and fragile ecosystem. The park offers landscapes of remarkable contrasts, such as arid zones alongside lush oasis of the swamps. The ecosystem of this low rainfall region depends on the water from Mount Kilimanjaro.

A particular feature of the Amboseli National Park is the possibility to take postcard photos of elephants against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro. Covering an area of 392 square kilometers, the park is, in addition to elephants, home to numerous animals such as giraffes, wildebeests, antelopes, buffaloes, lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas, as well as over 400 species of birds such as pelicans, kingfishers, cranes, hamerkop, and 47 types of raptors that live alongside the Maasai villages.

This compact park is abundant with wildlife and allows for excellent game viewing. Its vegetation consists of a combination of sprawling grasslands, swampy springs, and dry dusty earth. From observation hill, you will have a view of the entire park and especially the swamp areas where buffaloes, elephants, hippos, and a diversity of water birds come to cool off and refresh themselves. Look out for the shy porcupine who only dares to emerge at sunset.
