You will stay in various accommodations arranged by Safari Madagascar. Safari Madagascar works with several hotels and lodges according to the availability.

Programme

This tour is available for the whole year (any date). Your English-speaking driver will lead you during this trip and you will have your own private guide during each visit to the park.

For this travel, you can mainly see lemurs, but you can see other interesting wildlife too. After the visit to Andasibe National Park and Mantadia, you will reach Manambato and take the boat to Ankanin’ny Nofy (the nest of dreams). Within, you will have a rare opportunity to see the famous Aye Aye, and also visit the Palmarium Reserve.

After the Eastern parts, you ride back on the speedboat and drive to the Southeastern part to Ranomafana, passing by the city. Ranomafana is the last visit to the rainforest where you can see other wildlife including the Golden Bamboo lemur, Milne Edward Sifaka, and birds.

At the end of the trip, you drive to the Western side to Morondava, one of the famous places in Madagascar with huge and tall baobab trees. Then, you will take a flight back to the city.

Please note that the hike requires medium to a good physical condition as there is some steep and dense vegetation.

Itinerary

Day 1: Antananarivo

A tour representative will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. Overnight to Hotel Palissandre or le Louvre (4 star).

Day 2: Antananarivo - Andasibe

After breakfast at the local restaurant, ride to Andasibe. Leave the Analamanga Region and drive along National road 02 into the East. Enjoy the breathtaking landscape along the way. On the way, you can see the beautiful landscape of the highland. Trail along the winding roads and a few hours on the main road.

Pyereras reptile farm

You will make a stop at Madagascar Exotic. Founded by a French man, it’s a private reserve where you can see the collection includes many reptiles such as endemic frogs, chameleons, and Leaf Tailed Geckos. The collection includes crocodiles and bats. During feeding time, you can be close to the lemur. It’s a real opportunity to have very good photos of the famous Coquerel Sifaka.

After the visit, continue the drive to Andasibe. Overnight at the Lodge Andasibe.

Day 3: Andasibe

Enjoy breakfast at a restaurant in the lodge in the local area. Then, go to the national park and watch Indri-indri or Babakoto, the largest lemur species. Discover other lemur species and birds such as Madagascar Paradise Fly Catcher, Crested Drongo, and others. It is a four-hour hike. Then enjoy local specialties for lunch.

In the afternoon, drive to Vakona reserve. The Vakona reserve is surrounded by freshwater with several artificial islands. It is famous for its lemurs. You will have very good opportunities to see some species closely, including Eastern Bamboo Lemurs, and Black and White Ruffed lemurs.

Drive back to the lodge. Overnight to Vakona or Mantadia Lodge.

Day 4: Andasibe - Manambato Palmarium

After breakfast, you continue the route to the eastern part of the country to take the speed boat to go to Manambato. Along the way, you can see numerous fruit stalls. In Manambato, the boat will be ready to transfer you to Ankany ny Nofy (Nest of Dream). This place is located between the Pangalane Channel and the Indian Ocean. Enjoy your free leisure in the afternoon and relax at your convenience. In the evening, take a boat ride for an exclusive visit to see the Aye Aye.

The Aye Aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis) is one of the most endangered lemur species. Being a nocturnal species, it is considered by the local people "evil." Butchered by the local people for meat, this lemur species become endangered and close to extinction. The species are protected within this area. Not too long ago, the species were spotted in the Palmarium reserve. The remaining guided tour offers a unique opportunity to watch rare lemurs. Overnight at Palmarium.

Day 5: Visit Palmarium Reserve

Enjoy your breakfast at the local restaurant. Then, explore the Palmarium Reserve with your guide. Walk throughout the forest to spot lemurs including the Coquerel’s Sifaka, Macaco Lemurs, and Indri Indri. After the visit, walk back to the lodge. Overnight at the lodge (bungalow).

Day 6: Palmarium - Manambato - Andasibe

Have breakfast and transfer to the boat from the Palmarium Reserve to Manambato. Drive to Manambato and enjoy the sights and the splendid landscape. Then, drive to Andasibe. Overnight at Mantadia Lodge or similar.

Day 7: Andasibe - Antsirabe

Eat breakfast then drive to Antsirabe. Today you leave the region of Andasibe and ascent towards the highland and the capital. Before arriving in Antananarivo, you take a junction to leave National road 2 to drive through a newly built road through the field around the capital to reach the famous National road 7.

The beginning of National Road 7 will give you a first taste of the highland scenery with rice fields, mountains, and typical villages due to the altitude. You can have a good picture of the farmers working in the fields and a beautiful landscape along the way.

Ambatolampy is a small village between the capital and Antsirabe. Well known for aluminum working. The aluminum they use is from recycling parts from cars. You‘ll have an opportunity to see the way how they produce cooking pots used by most of the local people. These hardworking men without protection probably have one of the most dangerous jobs in Madagascar. After the visit, drive to Antsirabe. Overnight at Plumeria (3 stars).

Day 8: Antsirabe - Ranomafana

This city was founded by Norwegian missionary T.G. Rosaas in 1872 as a hill station to serve as a retreat center. The thermal baths were opened in 1917. This is also the place where the Moroccan King Mohamed V was exiled in 1955. Explore the outstanding handicrafts displayed at various workshops. Discover craft cars, bicycles, and trucks made from recycled tins and cans. Enjoy decorative art crafts made from zebu horns. Then, head to Ambositra to discover the famous Zafimaniry wood carving art.

Lunch to Ambositra with folkloric music. Then drive to the Ranomafana rainforest. On the way, you will pass through the hilly and twisty route. Check into your hotel room. Overnight at a lodge (bed and breakfast included).

Day 9: Ranomafana National Park

Ranomafana is located in the southeastern parts of Madagascar with 41,600 hectares of tropical rainforest. The park was established in 1991 with the purpose of conserving the unique biodiversity of the local ecosystem. It is home to rare species of fauna and flora including Golden Bamboo Lemurs, Milne Edwards Sifaka, and other lemurs species, also some species of rare birds such as Pitta Like Ground–roller, short-legged ground-roller, and brown Mesite. The flora and fauna of Ranomafana have been subject to extensive scientific research. Close to the park, established in 2003, is ValBio research station, managed by Stony Brook University. It is focusing on biodiversity, community health, and education.

At around 6 p.m., take your headlamp and embark on a night visit to spot the nocturnal Chameleons, frogs, and the famous mouse lemur, one of the small night-active primates in Ranomafana.

Overnight at Setam Lodge or similar.

Day 10: Ranomafana - Antsirabe

You will visit the second park of Ranomafana to see other creatures in the forest. After the visit, drive back to Antsirabe. Picnic lunch on the way. You will be to Antsirabe at night. Overnight at Antsirabe Plumeria Hotel or similar.

Day 11: Antsirabe - Morondava

Today you drive to Morondava on road No. 34. You‘ll drive to the Menabe region, enjoying the landscape with several contrasts of highland and flatland. You‘ll be amazed by the scenery. Have lunch in Miandrivazo, then you continue driving to Morondava.

Overnight at Palissandre cote Ouest.

Day 12: Morondava

After breakfast, you’ll drive to Kirindy Forest. Kirindy Forest is 60 kilometers from Morondava on the North with bumpy roads passing by Baobab Avenue. Kirindy forest is a dry deciduous area where the famous Fossa lives. The Fossa is a solitary and elusive predator of the lemur and other animals. It’s also a famous place to see the smallest lemur on Earth called Madame Berth. Mouse lemur and other animals can be seen (birds and reptiles).

After the visit, drive back to Morondava and stop at Baobab avenue for the sunset then drive to the hotel. Overnight at the lodge Palissandre Cote Ouest.

Day 13: Morondava - transfer to the airport (domestic fight)

After breakfast and according to the flight schedule you’ll be transferred by your driver to the airport. Take a flight to Antananarivo and the other team will pick you up and drive you to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel Palissandre.

Day 14: Antananarivo

After breakfast, you go for the city tour. If the time allows, drive to the souvenir market, then you will be transferred to the airport and flight back home. End of service.

This safari takes place in Madagascar. Starting in Antananarivo, you will then visit Andasibe, Palmarium Reserve, Antsirabe, Ranomafana, Morondava, then back to Antananarivo.
