Programme

Day 1: Drive to Chitwan

Arrive in Chitwan. After a six-hour drive from Kathmandu or five hours from Pokhara, you will arrive at the hotel about 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. It would be an excellent time to have a meal.

  • 15:00 A village tour and visit an elephant breeding center.

Of all the animals, elephants are the most graceful. The naturalists will take you to the Hattisar to demonstrate how elephants’ meals are prepared and how they eat in the Elephant Breeding Center. They will explain the nature and habits of elephants. The unique Centre was established in 1985 for the captive breeding of domesticated elephants and trapping for domestication.

In Chitwan, there are Tharu social groups, which show their unique performance. Tharu cultural dance performances used to be held in the evening before dinner. During this performance, you will hold drinks and roasted meats to make you more entertained.

Day 2: Jungle excursion tour

Canoe Ride is an active package program. This is included in every package. A canoe ride along the Rapti River will be an excellent opportunity for bird watching and seeing the two rare species of crocodiles: the Marsh Mugger and the fish-eating Gharial. Take an exciting walk through the lush sub-tropical jungles of Chitwan. The trained naturalists take you to prime spots to view deer, rhinos, sloth bears, and other wildlife. They will also give you interesting information about the various plants and animals of the jungle throughout your walk.

Jeep drive is one of the vigorous and exciting activities for the jungle safari. Jeep drive includes the above three nights four days packages, but on your special request, it can be done on the day you refer. The jeep drive goes through the grasslands, river in forests, and sal forests to Kasara (the national park’s headquarters), Gharial Hatchery Farm, where you will learn how crocodiles are brought up at this farm and later released into the rivers.

Day 4: Drive back to Kathmandu or Pokhara

Chitwan is the best destination for bird watching. The birds found here are cormorants, lesser adjutant stork, blue indian roller, hornbills, stork-billed kingfishers, grey-headed eagles, ruby-cheeked sunbird, bengal florican, largetailed nightjars, asian paradise flycatcher, beaters and lesser Florican, etc. More than 500 species have been recorded only in Chitwan.

Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park, formerly called Royal Chitwan National Park, covers an area of 932 sq km and is the oldest national park in Nepal. Established in 1973, it was granted the status of a World Heritage Site in 1984. The park is located in the subtropical inner Terai lowlands of South-Central Nepal in Chitwan district, 200km from Kathmandu. Chitwan National Park is rich in flora and fauna, including one of the last populations of single-horned Rhinoceros and the Bengal tiger. You can see these things during the three-night, four-day Chitwan jungle wildlife tour. The area was known as Four Mile Forest and a hunting reserve for big game hunting until 1951. This national park is just 10 kilometers far from Bharatpur.

Chitwan National Park is a popular destination for eco-tourists and includes canoeing, elephant rides, and guided jungle walks. Adjacent to the National Park in the east are the Parsa Wildlife Reserve and the Bara Hunting Reserve further east. The vegetation consists mainly of moist deciduous forests, with Sal as the dominating tree species. In the Churia Hills, pine trees are found in plenty. On the floodplains of the large Rivers, the Rapti, the Reu, and the Narayani, there are huge areas covered with Elephant grass alternating with rivers. Forests mainly comprise Simal, Khair, and Sisau trees. The Chitwan National Park is home to at least 43 species of mammals, 450 species of birds, and 45 species of amphibians and reptiles.

Elephants and Indian rhinos are the largest species found in the park. Still, many other large herbivores also inhabit the park, including gaur, sambar deer, Indian muntjac, chital, hog deer, mainland serow, chousingha, and wild boar. Three large predator species, tigers, leopards, and dholes, prey on them, and carrion eaters like striped hyenas are also found. Sloth bears are among the main attractions of the park. Smaller carnivore species are the golden jackal, the yellow-throated marten, ratel, smooth-coated otter, small Indian civet, large Indian civet, spotted linsang, common palm civet, binturong, small Indian mongoose, Indian grey mongoose, crab-eating mongoose, leopard cat, marbled cat, and fishing cat.

Other mammals in the park include rhesus monkeys, hanuman langurs, Indian pangolin, northern palm squirrel, red giant flying squirrel, particolored flying squirrel, Indian porcupine, hispid hair, Indian hair, and Ganges Dolphin. Among the reptiles, the largest are the marsh crocodiles, gharials, and Indian pythons.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM). Pick-up at the airport is not included in the price. Kindly share the name and address of your hotel in either Kathmandu or Pokhara. Upon receiving this information, Peregrine Treks and Expedition will arrange for a pickup service to transfer you from your hotel to the designated bus station. Peregrine Treks and Expedition will arrange for the transportation of all travelers from the Tourist Bus Station in Kathmandu (Shorakhutte) or the Pokhara Tourist Bus Park. Should you require a transfer service from your hotel to the bus station, kindly inform Peregrine Treks and Expedition at least seven days prior to your departure date, and they will be pleased to provide this service to you, without any additional cost.
