The 145,000 hectare Greater Addo Elephant National Park surrounds the hotel where a range of spectacular horse-riding and hiking trails can be experienced from beginners to the more advanced. During this safari, you will get to enjoy game drives, wherein you will get to see various wildlife, and also you will get to receive pampering at the spa.
The more discernable guests can treat themselves to one of Zuurberg Mountain Village's Edwardian Village Cottages. The cottages are arranged so that guests can enjoy both the spectacular mountain and valley views. Each cottage boasts two private patios on the east and west side, ideal for magical sunrises and sunsets.
Other features include, black-wood floors, climate control, under-floor heating in the bathroom, a freestanding bath, and an indoor and outdoor hot and cold shower.
The lounge is a gracious and high-ceilinged room dominated by an immense stone fireplace with classic indigenous wooden furniture typical of the period. Aperitifs can be enjoyed around a log fire on cool winter evenings.
The Cycad, the hotel’s main dining area, is enhanced by several features - the counter hand-crafted by the 1820 Settlers, fireplaces, and French doors leading to the pool where alfresco dining may be enjoyed on balmy summer nights.
Woodifields Bar, named after the engineer of the Zuurberg Pass, is one of the few remaining genuine English pubs in the country, where refreshments can be enjoyed in a relaxing atmosphere.
Hotel leisure facilities include a swimming pool, tennis courts, kiddie’s playground area, pool table, game drives, hiking trails, and bird watching and horse trails.
Arrive at Zuurberg Mountain Village late in the morning and relax with an el fresco lunch on the terrace. Spend the afternoon relaxing around the pool or doing a one-hour hike on the property. You will have a one-hour spa pamper treatment (massage, manicure, or pedicure). Enjoy dinner from 7 p.m. onwards. Overnight in your tastefully appointed village cottage.
Early breakfast at around 7:30 a.m. for departure at 8 a.m. for a full day game drive from the hotel into the Addo Elephant National Park.
The game drive covers the various periods of the day and should provide good sightings of elephant, buffalo, zebra, hartebeest, kudu, eland, warthog with good opportunities to see lion, hyena, jackal, and various others.
The park has a unique combination of vegetation hosting numerous bird species. You will enjoy a braai (barbecue) lunch at one of the picnic areas followed by the afternoon in the bush. You will return to the hotel at 6:30 and enjoy dinner from 7 p.m. onwards.
