Explore the true African wilderness that lies in the rugged, semi-arid valleys of Kidepo Valley National Park. During this safari, you will stay at Boma Hotel, Acholi Inn, and Kidepo bandas which are budget bandas located just outside Kidepo Valley National Park.
Boma Hotel is located in the quiet senior quarters of Gulu town next to the Gulu Referral Hospital. It is a mid-range hotel offering decent accommodation in 60 spacious rooms. The hotel also has conference facilities which can accommodate up to 100 people. It has 3 star quality and the restaurants offer a variety of continental dishes to every clients delight.
At Acholi Inn Hotel, the emphasis is on good, friendly, but unobtrusive service. This Gulu hotel's accommodations consist of 80 air-conditioned rooms, three floors for non-smokers, and six spacious rooms for disabled guests. In addition to the deluxe double and twin hotel rooms, there are also executive suites for your added comfort.
You will be picked up by your Yala Safaris Uganda guide in the morning who will brief you before heading out to Kitgum which is in the northern part of Uganda and start your Kidepo Valley National Park safari. You should be prepared for a long day in the car, but with a lot to see as you enjoy the Ugandan landscape passing by the windows during this day of transfer.
After breakfast, you will drive northwards through Lira in a landscape of vast plains and semi-arid savanna framed by jagged mountains and wooded hills. Kidepo is one of the wildest and most spectacular reserves in Africa. The landscape throughout the park is studded with small hills, rocky outcrops, and inselbergs from which one can obtain stunning views in all directions. You will enjoy panoramic views of the Narus River Valley and photographic opportunities of wildlife from all corners. Experience an evening game drive along the Narus River Valley for game viewing and photography of elephants, herds of buffaloes, jackals, Jackson's hartebeest, klipspringer, and possibly lions.
After an early breakfast, you will go for a morning game drive to Kanangorok Hot Springs. A variety of animals can be seen roaming around including ostrich. In the afternoon, you will have a cultural experience that will bring into contact with Karamojong peoples at Karenna and Kapedo. Meet the local elders and have an opportunity to interact with them. They will show you the kraals, the grinding stones, and many more interesting items. Overnight is at Kidepo bandas.
You will travel through the remotest zones of Uganda, seeing the villages and thatched houses passing by the window. You can view the wild domestic and cultural richness of this pearl of Africa and experience quality vegetation. You will spend the night in the town of Gulu. Overnight is at Acholi Inn.
You will leave Gulu, Uganda’s second biggest town, after breakfast. Along the way to Kampala, take a light break at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to look at rhinos being reintroduced to Uganda. Before Kampala, your guide will point out to the popular Luwero Triangle and continue through to the city. He will drop you at your hotel at the end of your Kidepo Valley National Park safari.
This safari will take you to Kidepo Valley National Park in Uganda. It features wildlife and different bird species for the visiting birders. It contains a bird list of over 475 species, a total second only to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
