These are open plains, extensive stands of yellow-barked acacia woodland, rocky, lava-strewn, thorn bush country, swamps and marshes, and at the western end of the reserve, above Namanga, the massif of Ol Doinyo Orok rising to over 2,760 meters (8,300 feet) and still for the most part zoologically unexplored. Arrive in time for your hot lunch. Enjoy your afternoon game drive until late evening.

The Mara reserve is 1,510 square kilometers of incredible wide-open landscapes and fertile riverine woodland following the looping meanders of the Mara and Talek rivers.

Wherever you go in the Mara, you will see a frequent amount of wildlife such as Maasai giraffes, baboons, warthogs, bat eared foxes, gray jackals, spotted hyenas, topis, impalas, hartebeests, and wildebeests. Elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and hippos also exist in great numbers.

The ultimate action here is, without a doubt, the annual wildebeest exodus in July and August when millions of these grass eaters move north from the Serengeti in search of lusher grass before turning south again in October.

This safari will take place in Amboseli National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, and Maasai Mara National Reserve.

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park covers 400 square kilometers of plains redeemed by the stunning spectacle of Kilimanjaro towering over it. The snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro rising above a saucer of clouds dominates every aspect of Amboseli. Amboseli is one of the most popular parks in Kenya. The wildlife viewing is great all year round.

It is also the home of the Maasai people. All round the park are occupied and abandoned manyatta, Maasai villages, quickly built out of bent poles and sticks and plastered with cow dung and equally swiftly abandoned when the grazing is finished and the herds must move on.

Lake Nakuru National Park

The Lake Nakuru National Park is one of the top tourist destinations in Africa, famed for the flamingos that flock to its shores of Lake Nakuru. It is a very important breeding ground and stopover for many species of birds and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lake Nakuru is a shallow strongly alkaline lake set in a picturesque landscape of surrounding woodland and grassland. The landscape includes areas of marsh and grasslands alternating with rocky cliffs and outcrops, stretches of acacia woodland and rocky hillsides covered with a Euphorbia forest.

The number of flamingoes on the lake varies with water and food conditions and the best vantage point is from Baboon Cliff. Also of interest is an area of 188 kilometers around the lake fenced off as a sanctuary to protect Rothschild giraffes, black rhinos, and white rhinos.

Maasai Mara National Reserve

The Maasai Mara is home to an excellent year-round concentration of game and is renowned for its annual visit by the two million animals that make up the great migration. The Maasai Mara National Reserve is the ‘Seventh Wonder of the World’ due to the annual migration of over a 1.3 million wildebeests from the Serengeti plains to the Mara.

Covering an impressive 1,115 square kilometers (430 square miles), the Maasai Mara is a land of breathtaking vistas, abundant wildlife, and endless plains. The Maasai Mara was made famous by the book Out of Africa by Karen Blixen, which was later made into a movie starring Robert Redford and Meryl Streep.

The Maasai Mara is Kenya’s most popular safari destination and for good reason. It is a vast reserve of endless flat grassland crossed by rivers which play host to wildlife’s most spectacular moments.
