Accommodation

On this safari, you will be staying at the Wild Woods Haven. The resort is built using laterite stone (exposed laterite which was procured from coastal Karnataka). The building is totally eco-friendly. The building is at the edge of the forest and overlooks a beautiful mountain which has clouds moving on and over it most of the time.

There is one room block and one block where the reception and the restaurant is located. The property is just adjacent to the tiger reserve and guests can just go into the forest and experience nature at its best.

There is also an open terrace, covered partially. The view from up above there is breathtaking. If one is interested, one can spend the late evening there and they will be able to spot a lot of wild animals.

The other facilities available are cricket, basketball ring, and carrom board, and a space for any card games and so on and so forth can be organized. Plenty of car parking space is available. Dormitory type of accommodation for budget travelers and tent houses will be provided in the next couple of months. The resort is quite a windy place and guests can experience nature at its best.

Program

Masinagudi is one of the most promising destinations for a memorable sojourn amidst the natural splendor of this wondrous town. Quaint and serene, the small town will easily lure you with its obvious natural charm. Unruffled with multitude of wildlife taking refuge in its dense forests, the soothing calmness of this place is enticing for those who wish to spend a quite holiday surrounded by lush green environs.

Safaris

The national park in Masinagudi organizes van safaris to some sanctuary areas. The timings for the safari are 06:00 a.m. to 08:30 in the morning and 03:00 to 06:00 p.m. in the evening. The rides last for about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Spotting wildlife in the jungle is very common on the back of an elephant. The elephant ride is to be accompanied by the mahout who will ride resident elephant on different tracks which are not covered by the van safari and chances are high that you will be able to sight the wildlife from close quarters.

Elephant camps

There is an elephant camp in Masingudi forest managed by the forest department. The elephant camp boasts of 29 pachyderms that are trained and cared for by the forest authorities. To witness the elephants giving a thorough cleaning and offering pooja to the diety will be quite an amazing experience.

Daily itinerary

Day 1

You will arrive at by noon. After having lunch, you can relax and spend time within the resort. Dinner will be provided.

-Day 2

After breakfast, you will pay a visit to Theppakadu. After seeing the museum, you will go for a van safari. You will return back to the resort for lunch. In the evening, you will have a nature walk in the forest and pay a visit to the river in case the forest guards give permission. You will have a night campfire and dinner.

Day 3

After breakfast, you will visit Bokkapuram village and temple. You will spend some time in the village area and come back for lunch to the resort. In the evening, you will visit an elephant camp and see the process for elephant feeding and spend some time there. You will come back to the resort for dinner.

Day 4

After breakfast, you will prepare to check out.

Location

This safari will be held at the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary in India. The Mudhumalai forests are thick deep forests with great wildlife and rich in flora and fauna. The dense forests in Masinagudi are a safe haven for a variety of wild animals.

For the wildlife enthusiasts, it is one of the ideal destinations to view some exotic wildlife including elephants, spotted deer, wild boar, bear, and many more. Animal lovers can see animals venturing out on the forest tracts or simply relaxing in the natural environs of Masinagudi forests.

Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary

Mudumalai Wildlife Reserve is a continuation of the Bandipur National Park. The river Moyar that flows along the border of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka separates the two.

The Mysore-Ooty highway runs through the park. The 321 square kilometers reserve is situated in Tamil Nadu. Mudumalai Wildlife Reserve was the first sanctuary in South India. The terrain is extremely varied with hills, valleys, ravines, watercourses, and swamps. The vegetation comprises of tropical moist deciduous forests, dry deciduous forests, and scrub forests.

Compared to the nearby reserves, the climate is warmer in Mudumalai. Langur, bonnet macaque, tiger, leopard, wild dog, hyena, jackal, sloth bear, elephants, gaur, sambar, spotted deer, Indian muntjac, mouse deer, wild boar, rodent, and flying squirrel are part of the wildlife in Mudumalai. It has a rich bird life that includes Malabar trogan, Grey hornbill, crested hawk eagle, crested serpent eagle, and many more.

The vegetation is quite varied in this region. The hilly terrain of the Western Ghats, clothed in dense mixed and moist deciduous forests, make Mudumalai (the ancient hills) a most attractive wildlife reserve.

The fauna include elephants, gaur, banner, macaque, common langur, tigers, leopards, chital, panther, sloth bear, python, barking deer, four horned antelope, otter, crocodiles (mugger), giant flying squirrel, sambar, hyena, wild dog, wild boar, mouse deer, spotted deer, jackal, hare, porcupine, and mongoose.

The topography of the area is distinctive with patches of grasslands, scrub jungles, and deciduous forests all over the place which makes it a perfect halt for environmentalists as well.

You also have the option to in an elephant safari. The charges for the elephant safari is 2000 INR per person. A maximum of four persons can go in one safari.

Arrival by train

The sanctuary is located at a distance of 30 kilometers from Udhagamdalam railway station and 95 kilometers from Mysore station.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 50% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
