This 12-day “Best of Uganda” safari offers you an abundance of wildlife, scenery, and cultural experiences. Gorilla and chimp tracking may be the highlight of this safari, but there are amazing opportunities of seeing lions, hippos, buffalos, leopards, elephants, and several species of birds and an abundance of dense green forest. This journey will bring you close to nature and culture.
During this safari, you will stay in 7 different accommodations. They are:
You will arrive at Entebbe International Airport (EBB) where you are welcomed by your representative and transferred to Kampala. You will check in to a pre booked hotel. Rest of the day, you are free to do what you like. Optional activities include a city tour and eating out among others. The region has some eclectic cuisine to offer.
You will leave for Murchison Falls National Park, stopping at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary which falls en route. The objective of creating the sanctuary was to save Uganda’s rhinos from complete extinction. The sight of black and white rhinos here is certainly going to delight wildlife enthusiasts. This is a safari where you may remain just a few feet away from the rhinos. For crossing the Nile River, you will catch a ferry. Overnight stay is at the lodge.
After taking breakfast, you will leave for an early morning game drive across the undulating land of Uganda’s largest national park. The vast park is home to a number of animal species. You will get a chance of viewing some of the park animals that include lions, giraffes, and hartebeests. Birders will appreciate watching the secretary birds and the black chested snake eagles.
Post afternoon, you will go for an exhilarating boat trip to world famous Murchison Falls, where the Nile falls through a small 7 meters gap, 43 meters down into Lake Albert. At the banks of the Nile, you will find creatures like crocodiles and hippopotamus. You may also decide to get off hike up the side of the falls. For the night, you will stay at the lodge.
This morning, you will drive to Fort Portal immediately after your breakfast and you will have an en route lunch. You will have spectacular views of the magnificent scenery as you drive through the traditional homesteads and farms on your way to Kibale. Upon your arrival in the park, take a guided forest walk where you will explore round the Bunyaruguru crater region and expose you to the park habitat species like the gray-cheeked mangabeys, red colobus monkeys, L’hoests, black and white colobus monkeys, and vervet monkeys. Have dinner overnight.
Today, you will wake up early, have a quick breakfast, and get ready for a lifetime experience of tracking down the chimpanzees in their natural habitat in the rich primate tropical Kibale forest. Kindly note that children above 15 years are allowed to trek chimpanzees.
Report to the park headquarters with your packed lunch immediately after your breakfast where you will be briefed about the chimp trackers code of conduct by a UWA official. Thereafter, you will penetrate through the misty forest under the guidance of an armed ranger for the tracking.
You may spot other primates during the tracking and these may include the vervet monkeys, L’hoests, blue monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, gray-cheeked mangabeys, black and white colobus monkeys and many more. Retire for dinner and overnight.
Transfer from Kibale after your breakfast for the most popular protected area with a stunning location on the rift valley floor between Lakes Edward and George. You will enjoy a game drive as you enter the park that will expose you to the diverse wildlife. You may spot the elephants, buffalos, and Uganda kobs. With luck, you may also spot the hyenas, lions, leopards, and perhaps the giant forest hogs. Have dinner and overnight.
You will go on a game drive looking for lion prides and other wildlife. Come afternoon, and you will go take a cruise along the Kazinga Channel that hosts one of the largest concentrations of hippopotamus. You will also get to see herds of elephants, buffalos, and other wildlife. You will also find a huge variety of bird species that includes the African eagles.
Today after breakfast, you will transfer on to Ishasha, home to the world famous tree climbing lions. The best time to see them is in early hours of the morning. Before stopping for lunch, have a game drive. Before dinner, you will go for another game drive.
You will proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for a two-night stay. It is home to over half of the worlds’ mountain gorilla population. For anyone, interacting with these gentle giants is a kind of experience you will never forget. Bwindi Rainforest spans 321 square kilometers and has 90 mammal species that includes primates as well as 23 Albertine Rift endemic bird species.
Report to the park headquarters after your breakfast where you will be briefed about the mountain gorilla trackers' code of conduct. Kindly note that children above 15 years are allowed to trek gorillas. You will penetrate through the misty impenetrable Bwindi Forest for a more adventurous and exciting lifetime experience of mountain gorilla tracking.
The tracking duration depends on the ease of seeing the gorillas that day. You will spot other forest wildlife on these trails that may include the black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed colobus, blue monkeys, L’hoests and baboons, and many more. You will have dinner and overnight.
After early breakfast, you will leave Bwindi for Lake Mburo National Park immediately after your breakfast. Embark on an afternoon game viewing boat trip along Lake Mburo that will expose to the park’s wildlife. Possible sightings on this trip may include the hippos, a variety of water birds that may include the African finfoot, pelicans, black crake, heron, cormorant, fish eagle. If you are lucky, you will spot the rare shoebill storks. Have dinner and overnight.
Have an encounter with the morning riser’s in the park in the morning game drive after your breakfast. Drive through the humid acacia forest, where you expect to see the park endemics like the giant elands, impala and Burchell's zebras besides other wildlife including the buffalos, oribis, waterbucks, reedbucks, and the rare sitatungas. Thereafter, depart for Entebbe with an en-route lunch stopover. You will be transferred to Entebbe International Airport (EBB) for your flight back home.
This safari will take place in Uganda.
