In the afternoon, the group will enjoy a game viewing drive. The Samburu region is the best place to find several endemic Northern species, including the gerenuk (Twiga gazelle) due to her long neck, the beisa oryx, the reticulated giraffe, the Somali ostrich, and Grevy’s zebra.

Samburu is also an ornithological paradise, home to many birds including local species such as the Palm Nut Vulture and the Vivacious Dove. The group will enjoy dinner and overnight at either Samburu Sopa Lodge, Sarova Shaba Lodge, or the Elephant Bedroom Camp.

Day 2 - Samburu Game Reserve

The entire Samburu region is a place of breathtaking and magical beauty, also a place where the vision of a deep red sunset silhouetting the doum palms along the river as a leopard emerges to hunt brings the perfect end to a day on safari. The leopards are often seen at dusk. Accommodation is at either Elephant Bedroom Camp or Ashnil Samburu Camp.

Day 3 - Mount Kenya National Park

After breakfast, the group will depart south on a scenic drive to the lower slopes of Mount Kenya. Arriving at the Tree Lodge, in time for lunch. In the afternoon, the group will proceed on a forest nature walk with a professional armed-guide. The group will return to the lodge for dinner and then continue an overnight floodlit game viewing.

Things to do (optional)

Dawn Balloon Safari

The Dawn Balloon Safari is an optional activity on the sixth day of the tour, the adventure only begins before dawn. Flames from the hot air balloon burners light the darkness as the crews inflate their craft. The first pink tongues of the sunlight flicker across the skies and the hot air balloon fills then rises.

Suspended in a basket beneath the rainbow-colored canopy, you are off for a game-viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective. Apart from the occasional hiss of the burners, a lion's roar, elephants crashing through the bush, baboons perched on the tips of the trees startled and screeching to see something above them. The flight above the open plains is magically silent.

The thing that amazes most first-time balloonists is the absolute stillness and silence as you float above the plains forest, the rivers of Masai Mara and Serengeti. If you ever flown elsewhere, you have seen nothing like this. At the end of the flight, the passengers are treated to a champagne breakfast in the bush, complete with flowers, bone china, and crystal are set out on the table that is placed under a convenient acacia tree.

The finishing touch to the flight is a game drive back to the lodge or camp, with the possibility of seeing the same pride of lions, or herd of elephants that had been viewed while ballooning.

Samburu Manyatta

During the second day of the tour, you can chose to visit Samburu Manyatta to see how the tribe lives in this harsh surrounding.
