During the adventure safari tour, you will be accommodated at several hotels and campsites en-route. In Antananarivo, Malaimbandy, Ranohira, and Fianarantsoa, you will stay in hotels with shower and toilet inside. During the trek and on the river, you will stay in bivouac, a tent with a double roof with foam mattress.

As this is an adventure tour, luxury is only possible in the cities. In Malaimbandy, you will be accommodated in a clean hostel, with private toilet. However, during the days of trekking, you will be accommodated in bivouac and will sleep in a double roofed tent, with a foam mattress. In the cities, you will sleep in two to three stars hotels according to the norms of Madagascar and its availabilities. Tsingy Safari Aventures guarantees your comfort and security.

The Makay Madagascar safari tour is an open-air trekking experience for people who love the off beaten tracks and would like to discover sumptuous biodiversity reserve still unlisted. Note that this is a trek of an average difficulty.

This journey is combined by the descent of the Mangoky River from Ambatovory to Bemana Beroroha. Bemana is the starting point for Ranohira, the town well known for the park of Isalo where there are many circuits to enjoy. You will also get a chance to see the beautiful waterfall in the rocks ruiniformes and sunset.

When you take the journey westwards, you will pass to Tulear and continue towards Ifaty, a perfect corner for relaxation, with pretty beaches and a lot to do, including diving and fishing. You will walk with a local guide in the forests of Ifaty and Mangily, which are very appreciated by the ornithologists and the botanists. It is mandatory to travel to Antananarivo by plane and continuing on the international flight on the same day.

Do not forget your shopping souvenirs in Tuléar and in the craft market of the road dam in Antananarivo.

Day 1: Antananarivo

Depending on the time of your arrival at Ivato International Airport (TNR), your guide welcomes you and drops you off at your hotel in the city center. If it is possible, the dinner will be served upon arrival. Overnight at Hotel Les Trois Metis.

Day 2: Antananarivo - Malambandy

You leave early in the morning by a rented car, a 4WD, have a short stop in Ambatolampy to visit the manufacturer of handcrafted aluminum pots. You will pass by Antsirabe and see the Highland landscapes. Continue the trip towards the western part of the island, the savanna landscapes, and hills denuded by the bushfires. Enjoy a little stop at Miandrivazo for lunch (picnic). This first trip ends in Malaimbandy. Overnight in at Auberge Badika. Full board meal included.

Day 3: Malaimbandy - Mandrognavarivo

You continue the trip with the same car and runway about seven hours from Malaimbandy. This runway is very critical, but the advantage is the western landscape that extends in the Massif du Makay. Overnight at the bank of the river or at the tracker Bivouac. Full board meal included.

Day 4: Mandrognarivo - Bekijana

Here begins the trekking to approach the massif, of average difficulty, as you will pass on a covered plateau of the savannah. You also cross the river several times. This trip is animated by the porters who form a long column following a runway off the beaten path. Hook along the way for lunch, the meal is cooked in the firewood. It is a local preparation and of organic food. After the meal, you continue the trail to stop at the first campsite at the bank of the river in Bekijana. You can enjoy showering without worry. At nightfall, a campfire can be made. Overnight at the bank Bivouac. Full board meal included.

Day 5: Bekijana - River Mahasoa

After an early breakfast, it is better to leave the camp early to avoid the sun, a small trip on a sand bank, going up a dry river bed to reach the area disemboweled by the lavaka, the entry to the Makay Massif. But this time you have to go down with a rope, one by one as well as the luggage. In this lavaka, you feel like in a lost world. You continue on crossing on an inflatable, the water is blocked by a landslide, about 40 meters long.

Then you go down with a rope in the canyon of the river Andranosihotsy source. You pass in a canyon and a tunnel, a very nice and wild corner. It is possible to prepare lunch in this canyon. You continue the road to the bivouac point, on the branch of the Mahasoa River in the middle of the forest. Overnight in bivouac on the bank of the river Bivouac. Full board meal included.

Day 6: River Mahasoa

After breakfast, you will follow the branch of the Mahasoa river upstream, passing through a canyon and the forest. You can see the lemurs, wild and so far away. This passage is stony and crosses water: you must bring water-resistant sandals. You return by the same way and have a picnic lunch. Overnight at the bank Bivouac. Full board meal included.

Day 7: River Mahasoa

After the breakfast, you leave the camp to approach the exit passage. From this new camp point with the tracker, you will climb up the bed from where you reach into the Makay Massif, to get in the middle of the pass of a part of the massif: a beautiful panoramic view of the Massif. Then you go back to the camp for lunch. After lunch, you have free time to visit the neighborhood. Overnight at the bank of the river Bivouac. Full board meal included.

Day 8: River Mahasoa - River Beora

You leave the camp, go up towards the plateau, but the panoramic view of the Massif remains unforgettable. After three hours of walking, a new camp is built at the Beora River, so you can enjoy the ascent to the top of the massif for a panoramic view at the sunset from the camp. You go back to the camp for the bivouac. Overnight at the bank of the river Bivouac. Full board meal included.

Day 9: River Beora to Ranotsara Village and River Karanandy

After breakfast, you begin the trek, passage on the covered plateau of the savannah before arriving at the Karanandy river. You have two choices, either going to the small village of Ranotsara to buy more provision, or directly to the Karanandy River. Overnight at the bank of the river Bivouac. Full board meal included.

Day 10: River Karanandy - Belambo Village

After the trek, it is better to leave early to avoid the heat, because from the Karanandy river you follow the bed to where you go up to the small village of Belambo to get to the plateau. There will be no forest so you will always be in the sun. Note that there will be a passage on a sandbank and in the water but it will not be deep. After the dinner, the porters leave the company, they usually leave at night. Overnight in bivouac at the bank of the river Bivouac. Full board meal included.

Day 11: Belambo Village - Ambatovory Village and River Mangoky

You leave this camp around 5:00 a.m., everybody on the cart, two persons per cart plus the luggage. To avoid shocks on the cart, mattresses are placed underneath to cushion them. A four-hour journey is possible to reach the Ambatovory pier. This trip by cart is put in the program for adventure, for another mean of transport.

You continue going down the Mangoky river after the breakfast on the river, the canoe made like a raft is safe for this trip, but you need to wear a hat because of the sun. You can see crocodiles sunbathing in a distant bank. Passage in the small village of Tanambao, you have lunch at the foot of the trees, in the shade of the leaves. Before the sunset, you stop for the camp at the bank. Overnight at the bank of the river Bivouac. Full boar meal included.

Day 12: River Mangoky - Bemana Village

You continue going down the river to admire a nice landscape. On the way, you can meet other canoes carrying goods and people bordering on the river. It is rare to see crocodiles because the area is often crowded. After lunch, before 4:00 p.m., you land in Bemana, the camp is set before sunset. Overnight in bivouac at the bank Bivouac. Full board meal included.

Day 13: Bemama Village - Ranohira Village

You go by car (a rented four wheel drive) because the road is a runway that takes about seven hours to get to Ranohira. A few hours before arriving in Ranohira, you follow a pretty chain of hills, the National Park of Isalo, the first in Madagascar. You can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view. Overnight at the Hotel Isalo Ranch. Full board meal included.

Day 14: Ranohira Village

This village is known for the most ancient park in Madagascar: Isalo Park. A lot of tours can be done but the most famous and not to be missed are the pool and the Isalo window. You choose what you want to do. You must go to the Madagascar National Park office to see a competent guide who works with our office. Overnight at Hotel Isalo Ranch. Full board meal included.

Day 15: Ranohira Village - Tulear Ifaty Village

Take the trip always with the four wheel drive car, passing to Ilakaka, the sapphire town which was before three to four hamlets, still road asphalt. As one is in the Tropic of the Capricorn, the heat is stifling, the region is arid from where the formation of the landscape of spiny plants. The town of Tuléar has little to see, we head straight to Ifaty, a small tourist fishing village Vezo. Overnight at Hotel Bellevue. Full board meal included.

Day 16: Ifaty Village

At Ifaty you will have plenty to do. You can relax by swimming, fishing or going out to sea with either a motor boat or with the canoe Vezo rocker. A stroll through the forest for ornithologists and botanists, see baobabs, and endemic birds from the South. Overnight at Hotel Bellevue. Full boar meal included.

Day 17: Ifaty Village - Tulear Antananarivo Natif Country

Depending on the flight schedule, transfer to the airport. It is better to leave early to enjoy your souvenir shopping in Tulear. Arrived in Antananarivo, if time allows you, you can still enjoy shopping for souvenirs at the craft market of the road dike, not that far away from the airport. Transfer to the airport two hours before take-off after a dinner not far from the airport. No overnight stay.
