How to get there

Recommended Airports

Driving directions from San Jose via New Toll highway (HWY 27) and coastal road

  • Follow signs to San Ramon once on Route 1
  • Continue straight ahead for about 10 kilometers.
  • Get in the right lane after the second bridge crossing.
  • Take the next exit (Route 3) for Jaco / Quepos / Manuel Antonio. There is also a sign here for Punta Leona and Atenas.
  • Turn left at the stop sign, crossing back over Route 1.
  • Follow Route 3 for about 3 kilometers.
  • Look for a large Christian church on the left and then a soccer field and make a left on the road immediately after it. You are on the road to Turrucares. There are no signs and it’s a secondary road, so don’t think you’ve made a mistake. It’s currently the best connection to the toll highway from the airport.
  • Drive for another 3 kilometers through this somewhat winding road.
  • Turn left before the highway once you arrive at the highway intersection turn. Again, there are might still be no signs there here yet. Be careful as it’s a narrow two-way gravel access road. After some 300 meters you will arrive at a roundabout.
  • Make a right following the highway signs to Orotina / Atenas.
  • Drive on the highway through two toll booths.
  • Take the next right exit to Route 34.
  • Follow signs for Jaco / Quepos. This exit forms a loop and then you bypass a roundabout to continue to Jaco.
  • Head towards Quepos once on the Costanera highway from Jaco.
  • Do not go off at Quepos but continue south to Matapalo and then to Dominical.
  • Once you pass the police control and bridge over Baru River, do not turn off to Dominical but continue on the coastal highway for 12 kilometers / 7.5 miles To TikiVillas Rainforest Lodge. A couple of miles before reaching TikiVillas Rainforest Lodge, there will be a sign for an entrance to “Cuna del Angel” on your right.
  • Continue on the highway for a further 3 kilometers / 1.5 miles.
  • Keep an eye out for marker 155 kilometers on your right (it’s a small white marker with 155 kilometers on it). 500 meters (500 yards), the road will start curving to the right as you are coming out of the curve on the left-hand side. There is “Villas Hermosas”, a residential development. Immediately after that, you will see a road on your left and a TikiVillas Rainforest Lodge sign.
  • Turn left into the driveway. The parking is 400 meters (400 yards) at the end of the drive. If you see Km. marker 156 or reach a gas station, you have gone too far.

Driving directions from San Jose via the mountains, Cerro de la Muerte

  • Make sure you get directions from the car rental company or hotel on how to get from San Jose on to the Pan American Highway South towards Cartago.
  • Follow directions to Cartago until you see a sign to San Isidro de General to the right.
  • Follow signs to San Isidro de General. It will be about a three-hour drive through scenic mountains until you arrive at San Isidro de General.
  • Follow the road until you see the McDonald sign.
  • Take a right at McDonalds and follow the road through town. Keep on this road as it will take you to Dominical. You will travel through the mountains again, going through the villages of Tinamastes, Plantanillo, and then Baru. About 45 minutes from San Isidro, the road ends at an intersection.
  • Take a left towards Dominical and pass the police control and bridge over Baru river.
  • Once on the highway (Costanera), do not turn off to Dominical but continue on the coastal highway for 12 kilometera / 7.5 miles To TikiVillas Rainforest Lodge. A couple of miles before reaching TikiVillas Rainforest Lodge there will be a sign for an entrance to “Cuna del Angel” on your right.
  • Continue on the highway for a further 3 kilometers / 1.5 miles.
  • Keep an eye out for marker 155 kilometera on your right (it’s a small white marker with 155 kilometers on it). 500 meters (500 yards) the road will start curving to the right as you are coming out of the curve on the left-hand side. There is a small TikiVillas Rainforest Lodge black sign.
  • Turn left into the drive (you will need to put the car into 4×4) and the parking is 300 meters (300 yards) at the end of the drive. If you see Km marker 156 or reach a gas station, you have gone too far. Tikivillas Rainforest Lodge recommends that you do not drive this way at night as the mountain road can get foggy.
