Kathmandu is the capital and largest urban agglomerate of Nepal. The city stands at an elevation of approximately 1,400 meters (4,600 feet) in the bowl-shaped Kathmandu Valley of central Nepal. It is surrounded by four major mountains: Shivapuri, Phulchoki, Nagarjun, and Chandragiri. Kathmandu Valley is part of three districts (Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur).

Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park is the first national park in Nepal. It was established in 1973 and granted the status of a World Heritage Site in 1984. It covers an area of 932 square kilometers (360 square miles) and is located in the subtropical Inner Terai lowlands of south-central Nepal in the Chitwan District. In altitude, it ranges from about 100 meters (330 feet) in the river valleys to 815 meters (2,674 feet) in the Churia Hills. In the north and west of the protected area, the Narayani-Rapti river system forms a natural boundary to human settlements.
