Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe - Lake Mburo National Park

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport (EBB), you will be received by a representative, your driver / guide, and drive to Lake Mburo National Park, having a stopover at the equator for the water experiment, photos, and lunch depending on the time of arrival.

Then, later on, you will proceed to the park entering with a mini game drive in search of wildlife that includes the zebras, impalas, topis, waterbucks, elands, klipspringers, dwarf mongooses, warthogs, bush bucks, and leopards among others. You will, later on, check in to the service of Mburo Eagles Nest for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Lake Mburo National Park - Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early morning breakfast, you will do a nature walk in the park and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Enroute, you will have a stopover for lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre or Agip Motel. You will later drive on through the rolling hills of Mbarara and Kabale as you head to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, where the rare and endangered mountain gorillas are found.

This safari is by far the most outstanding Ugandan safari to see gorillas blessed with 12 other primates as well 350 endemic bird species. You shall arrive at the park in the evening and check in to the accommodation for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After a great night in a natural environment, you will wake up to a beautiful view of the sunrise over the misty Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, have breakfast, and, at about 07:45 with your packed lunch, you will move to the park offices for registration and briefing before you start the gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Gorilla trekking can be quite exciting that sometimes you climb steep hills under muddy conditions and it calls for your physical stamina.

It’s unpredictable how long this will take because it always depends on the movement of these great apes. There are many factors that determine the movement of the mountain gorillas and food availability is one of them. But, generally, the activity can take between two to eight hours. Later on, you will head back to the lodge, relax, and have dinner before going to bed for a much-deserved night rest.

Day 4: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Kampala

After breakfast, you will drive back to Kampala with stopovers / toilet breaks at Kabale and Mbarara. Lunch will be en route. You shall also have a stopover at the equator for another chance to enjoy the water experiment and look at the craft shops. You will then proceed on to Entebbe International Airport (EBB) for your flight home.

Or, if you want, Terrain Safaris could arrange for you an accommodation for the night at an extra cost. This is the end of the four days' amazing gorilla safari Uganda. Thank you for supporting Terrain Safaris.

This safari will take place in Lake Mburo National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda.

Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park is the closest to Kampala and most accessible national park in Uganda. It is a savannah woodland park centred on swamp fringed lakes (Lake Mburo) and has a rich bird life (about 325 species) which includes key species like the crested and red-faced Barbet, Coqui francolin, long-tailed cisticola, emerald-spotted wood dove, lilac-breasted roller, papyrus gonolek, African finfoot, and the rare shoebill. It also harbours dense populations of zebras, impalas, cliff springers, and the last surviving Ugandan population of elands, the largest of African antelopes.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

This is one of the most popular conservation areas in Uganda and home to more than 50% of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas, though it also harbors other wildlife that includes; chimpanzees, monkeys, elephants, and various small antelopes. It’s also known to be Africa’s number one birding spot, with over 350 recorded bird species and has 23 of the Albertine rift endemics. So, mountain gorilla trekking is one of the most popular activities here and a lifetime experience.

The park has four tourism sectors, Nkuringo, Rushaga, Ruhija and Buhoma sectors in which the park headquarters are found. This one-day activity normally starts in the morning with a briefing by the park rangers at the park offices (depending on the family of gorillas that one is booked for) before penetrating the impenetrable forest to have a glance at these endangered gentle giants.

This being a highland, tropical rain forest, the trekking may involve walking under steep, slippery and muddy conditions and sometimes with rain over the head. So, you need to carry good walking boots, rain jackets, insect repellants, and a packed lunch, while going for this activity. Also, birding and nature walks are some of the activities done in this park.
