Built to blend in with the vastness of its surroundings, the Tarangire Sopa Lodge lies hidden among the kopjes, ancient baobab and grasses of the Tarangire National Park.
While the circular guest suites with their high, conical roofs fan out to either side of the public areas, it is worth mentioning a word of caution here. Because the lodge is not fenced in any way, wild animals are at liberty to come and go as they please and transits to your room and back might be delayed by an elephant or two. This is the only reason the guards will insist on taking you out at night.
Once inside the coolness of your room, you will be delighted with its space and airiness and also the views from its sheltered veranda. With its mini-bar, two double beds and an extremely spacious, well appointed bathroom, you can only wish that you were staying an extra night. You will be staying here on the third and fourth nights of the safari.
Located on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the plains of the south-western Serengeti National Park, home to many thousands of wild and rare animals, Serengeti Sopa Lodge lies within an area of out-standing natural beauty. An oasis of cool relaxation from the equatorial sun.
The lodge allows its guests to experience magnificent sights and enjoy interaction with the land and animals difficult to find elsewhere while enjoying the highest level of cuisine and hospitality.
With the Sopa tradition of excellence, it goes without saying that the fully en-suite guestrooms and suites have been designed, decorated, and furnished with only your total comfort in mind.
As you enter the room, you will find a lounge with a mini bar. In the front is a veranda with two comfortable chairs and a coffee table and with glass windows facing the vast Serengeti plains which extend as far as the naked eye can see.
The interior of the suites are painted with the same colors as the main building, terracotta, mustard, and blue, which is incorporated in the fabrics. A veranda extends from the room facing the plains, ideal for relaxing and watching the spectacular Serengeti sunset. You will be staying here on the fifth and sixth nights of the safari.
Facing the always magnificent sunsets to the west and located at the highest point on Ngorongoro crater’s entire rim, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge stands well over half a kilometer above the crater floor and offers unparalleled views across this enormous caldera.
Themed around traditionally circular African houses with conical roofs and decorated with examples of Africa’s rich tapestry of artistic traditions by way of rich woodcarvings and sculptures, the lodge harmonizes perfectly with its dramatic surroundings.
Brightly colored flowers of many species of shrubs border the paved pathways which lead away from both sides of the swimming pool to our guest rooms which are built to the same design.
When you step through your door, you will probably hold your breath while you stare over the two queen-sized beds and through the window walling of the lower level enclosed solarium at the view of the crater beyond.
All rooms are equipped with amenities to ensure maximum comfort during your stay like wake up calls and complimentary coffee and tea, all of which will help to kick start an early morning game drive. You will be staying here on the seventh or eight night of the safari.

Tarangire National Park is home to elephants and giant Baobab trees in northern Tanzania. The park is located along Arusha Dodoma road approximately 115 kilometers from Arusha City. Named after the Tarangire River, an important source of water crossing the park area, the park covers an area approximately of 2,800 square kilometers supporting a huge wildlife population.
The Serengeti National Park, covering 14,763 square kilometers is the greatest world’s heritage site and wildlife sanctuary. Serengeti is known for the most breath taking events in the animal kingdom like the the wildebeest migration involving hundreds of thousands wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles followed by attendant predators pound the plains every year.
Since the park is so tremendously large, the terrain varies widely. Central Serengeti is a vast, treeless plains and savannah, dotted with acacia trees, magnificent rock outcrops called kopjes, riverine bush, and thick scrub. In other regions, you can see winding streams, fast-moving rivers, small swamps, and lakes.
These features give the park a fascinating variety of habitats. The park contains an estimated three million large animals, most of which take part in the seasonal migration that is one of nature’s wonders.
The Ngorongoro Crater within Ngorongoro Conservation Area is the largest caldera in the world. Surrounded by very steep walls rising 610 meters from the crater floor, this natural amphitheater covers approximately 260 square kilometers and is home to over 25,000 large mammals.
There are gazelles, buffaloes, elands, hartebeests, warthogs, and rare rhinoceros. Occasionally, Maasai people can also be seen bringing their cattle down the crater walls to the lake below. Such vast numbers of animals attract many predators, including lions, hyenas, cheetahs, leopards, and varieties of birds including flamingos.
The Lake Manyara National Park, covering 330 square kilometers stretches over 50 kilometers along the base of rift valley escarpment. The compact game-viewing circuit through Lake Manyara offers a virtual microcosm of the safari experience.
Located 125 kilometers to the west of Arusha, the park endowed with lush groundwater forest where hundred strong baboon troops lounge nonchalantly along the roadside, blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bushbuck tread warily through the shadows, and out sized forest hornbills honk in the high canopy.
Inland of the floodplain, a narrow belt of acacia woodland is the favored haunt of Manyara’s legendary tree climbing lions and impressively tusked elephants. Squadrons of banded mongoose dart between acacias while the diminutive Kirk’s dik dik forages in their shade.
Pairs of klipspringer are often seen silhouetted on the rocks above a field of searing hot springs that steams and bubbles adjacent to the lake shore in the far south of the park. Manyara provides the perfect introduction to bird life with more than 400 species found including thousands of pink flamingos as well as other large water birds such as pelicans, cormorants, and storks.
