Accommodations for the first five nights of your trip (safari portion) are in shared twin rooms. The last six nights in Zanzibar, you have shared twin or private single rooms.

Accommodations on safari

Tarakwai Safaris is very particular with the accommodations they select on safari because they understand how important it is after a full day of driving and walking in the bush to come back to comfort and relaxation. They avoid the larger chain-style lodges, instead preferring smaller, more intimate places often built to blend in with the natural environment - where the sounds of nature will soothe body and mind.

These lodges and camps, though in the middle of the Tanzanian bush, remarkably offer most of the comforts you need, like comfortable beds, hot showers, and private bathrooms. Each ensuite safari cottage/tent sleeps 2 and opens up at the front to beautiful views of the surrounding African bush and savannah. Everyone can enjoy fireside, starlit evenings, and dining together.

Accommodation in Zanzibar

Sharazad Boutique Hotel is a small and charming four-star boutique hotel in Jambiani on the east coast of Zanzibar with a sublimely relaxed atmosphere. The hotel has a beach restaurant & bar, a spa, and 3 swimming pools along with a Vietnamese and Italian restaurant to explore. Diners consistently praise the food at this already exceptional spot. The fresh ingredients, delicious flavours, and high-quality menu ensure a truly unforgettable dining experience. The whole area is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and gazes over the expansive Indian Ocean. The location and the experience of the stay are unique and will leave you with unforgettable memories and a deep feeling of nourishment.

  • Night 1: Haradali's Home
  • Nights 2 and 3: Kirurumu Tented Lodge
  • Nights 4 and 5: Isoitok Camp
  • Nights 6 to 11: Sharazad Boutique Hotel

Program

The first half of your trip will be a classic African safari with the extraordinary opportunity to observe animals in their natural habitat, go on nature walks, and meet communities whose lives are intimately intertwined with the natural world.

The second half of your journey is on the enchanting island of Zanzibar. Here, your yoga practice will begin, furthering the exploration of self-discovery and interconnectedness. Zanzibar, particularly the area of Jambiani where you end your trip, has its own special energetics. The serenity of this part of the island, its local rhythms still aligned with those of the sea and seasons, is the ideal place to deepen the yoga practice and cultivate your well-being.

The yoga practice

During your time in Zanzibar, you’ll have the opportunity to take your practice to a new and deeper level through a mindful Vinyasa flow yoga approach combined with practices from other traditions. All levels are welcome, from beginner to the more experienced, and each session ends with a deep full-body relaxation.

During days 6-11 in Zanzibar, there will be a daily morning and late afternoon yoga practice. Each session is in a spacious shala directly facing the Indian Ocean. The morning practice will be active and focused on connecting movement and breath to awaken your energy. You will be guided into asanas (postures) through well-combined sequences themed especially for each day.

The late afternoon practice will be a combination of Yin yoga (a mostly seated practice that helps to balance the flow of energy), yoga Nidra (deep relaxation), meditation, and sound therapy.

Location

Tanzania has more wild animals per square kilometer than any other country in Africa. Nearly 40% of Tanzania is a protected area.

Tarangire is a gorgeous park with countless elephant herds and majestic baobab trees. At every corner, there is a delight, either in the changing scenery or another animal to be seen. Sunsets are spectacular here.

The Manyara region is a wonderful place to connect to the land and different tribes / cultures of Tanzania. Landscape is mostly typical African savanna where tribes such as the Maasai reside and roam semi nomadically with their cattle.

The Ngorongoro Crater harbors an incredible density of wildlife. It is not unusual to see the Big Five in one day. Views from the rim of the crater are sensational, as grassland blends into swamps, lakes, rivers, woodland, and mountains.

Zanzibar is a stunningly beautiful island where you can swim, snorkel, or just lounge the hours away while enjoying endless stretches of sand and turquoise waters. The island has a rich history with influences from Africa, Arabia, India, and Europe.

Jambiani, a lovely fishing village on the southeast coast of Zanzibari, is one of the best places to get insight into local life. You can see fishermen on their dhow boats returning with their catch in the early morning and women tending the seaweed farms.

Food

You will enjoy full-board meals while on safari. Each morning comes with a full breakfast, lunch is usually packed for the day's game drive, and dinner has a delicious variety of meals (both vegetarian and non-vegetarian) sourced from fresh ingredients.

In Zanzibar, they have included a half-board option whereby you can enjoy a healthy gourmet breakfast and dinner in the outside dining area with fresh breezes.

For lunch, they believe each person will appreciate the freedom to explore and choose from the vibrant food scene the island is renowned for. Members of the team will be on hand to direct you to some of their favorite spots, from authentic local eateries serving traditional dishes to larger, more upscale establishments.

The Zanzibar diet, filled with the island’s famous spices, fresh coconut flavors, countless fruit varieties, and a wealth of fish and seafood gives rise to a unique, delicious, and healthy cuisine. This stretch of beach also has beach bars where you can enjoy refreshing drinks, fresh fruit juices and coconut water, or local teas and Italian coffees at any time during the day.
