This is one of the programs that Tambopata Adventure’s clients love, because of the combination of lodging in the jungle lodge, the Macaw clay lick and Sandoval Lake, along with plenty of time to enjoy your amazon experience. Embark on a journey where you will get the chance to explore Peru's most interesting and fascinating wildlife.
You will be provided four nights of accommodation on this holiday. On the first night up to the third night, you will stay at the Chuncho Lodge, and on the fourth night, you will stay at the Sandoval Home.
You will be picked up from the terminal or airport in the city of Puerto Maldonado, and then you will get transferred to the Chuncho Lodge Office in the boulevard of Puerto Maldonado City. You will have a brief talk of welcome and activities to develop in the tour, as well as some final arrangements.
Departure from the office in a car by Road Interoceanica at an average of 48 kilometers, and then you will enter a dirt road by the middle of the forest for approximately 18 kilometers to the banks of the Tambopata River. You will arrive at the Chunho Lodge in the late afternoon.
After refreshments, you will go on a short introductory night walk into the forest to look for some of the nocturnal creatures. Overnight stay will be at Chuncho Lodge. Lunch and dinner are included.
You will wake up early in the morning and then after a breakfast, you will get ready to go on a boat ride on the Tambopata River to get a walk to the parrot clay lick on the banks of the El Gato Creek. You will watch parrots and parakeets as they gather and feed on the clay. On the walk, you may see animals such as monkeys and other interesting plants and insects.
Upon return, you can relax and swim in a natural jacuzzi. You will return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will have an ethno botanical long walk into the rainforest by the Tambopata Reserve private trail system that the lodge owns. This is where you will learn about plants and medicinal trees of the area.
The guide will explain how the forest interacts with the animals and will show you to observe the amazing jungle ecosystem, this is where you will see walking palm trees, giant lupuna trees (biggest tree in the amazon), snake trees, and so on. There is a great opportunity to see mammals too, such as monkeys, tapir, peccary (wild pigs), several birds of many colors, you will learn to identify animals by voice or sight.
This walk will make you spend the night in the forest, and the twilight is the best time to hear the sound of the Amazon jungle. After this unforgettable experience, you will return back to the lodge. Overnight stay will be at Chuncho Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
You will wake up very early at 04:30 a.m, and then you will leave at 5:00 a.m. The destination is at the world’s largest Macaw clay lick, with approximately one and a half hours boat trip.
Along the way, you will have the incredible opportunity to see Capybaras, which are the largest rodents in the world, tapirs, and you can even see the South American feline, the jaguar, which many of the customers (35%) have seen this beautiful cat and they have photographic evidence of these encounters with these mammals.
Once arrived to the Macaw clay lick, you will see hundreds of parrots of different species who come to eat clay on the wall adjacent to the river. You will be accommodated in chairs where you can wait to begin one of the most beautiful natural shows of the birds in the world. You will see species of large macaws, the most colorful of America, reds and greens, blue and yellows, and the scarlet’s macaws that gather to eat clay needed in their daily diet to eliminate toxins.
Parrots such as the blue-headed, orange-cheek, white-eyed, dusky-headed, and among others. These birds come every day to same place for same purpose. On a good day of activity, you can see hundreds of these wonderful animals flying over you, providing an experience of a lifetime.
You will return to the lodge for another opportunity to search for monkeys, capibaras, birds, turtles, basking on the logs, caimans resting on the sand beach of the river and much more. Upon arrival at the lodge, you will have a chance to rest.
By night, you will be free to rest or have a possibility of another night hike (highly recommended) or make a check list to remember the names of the plants and animals that you have seen during your day. Overnight stay will be at Chuncho Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
After a good breakfast, a boat will take you to the car to journey back to Puerto Maldonado, taking the same path to get back to the city. Once arrived in the city, you will move to the main port of the city to begin another cruise within the reserve. This time, the destination is the famous and beautiful Sandoval Lake.
This is an oxbow lake in Tambopata National Reserve. After approximately 40 minutes by boat, you will start a three-kilometer hike through the forest until you reach the shore of the lake. Since starting the tour, you will visit this beautiful body of water.
The place is spectacular, with many birds and very good opportunity to see lots of monkeys of several species such as the red howler monkey, brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, dusky tity, and saddle back tamarin. Also, you will have great chance to see the Giant Otters. You will be accommodated at the lodge, and then you will return to the lake to witness one of the most beautiful sunsets of the Amazon.
You will spend time until the evening on the lake, because in the dark night, you will be able to see the black Caiman, the largest of the rainforest crocodiles, reaching more than six meters long, and they love the lakes. With flashlights you can observe them closely and take good photos. Overnight stay will be at the Sandoval Home. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is included.
You will spend another day of waking up early but highly recommended, so you can leave at 05:30 a.m. in the morning to visit again the Sandoval Lake, in a beautiful sunrise and awakening of many of the animals that are very active this morning. Also, you will have great chance to see the giant otters.
You will paddle across the western part of the lake, with its beautiful palm trees of more than 30 meters high, reflected in the water aguajales. This will leave you full of memories on your last day in the Amazon jungle. You will return to the lodge, eat breakfast, and then get transferred to the bank of the river to subsequently be brought back to the city of Puerto Maldonado in time for your flight return or bus ride.
You will have a boat trip to the world’s largest Macaw clay lick, as well as a cruise along the Sandoval Lake.
Daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in the package.
