Banyan Camp is an off the grid, eco-retreat in deep rural Sri Lanka. A lake front location where humans are few and nature is plenty. The line between civilized and wild is blurred as are the lines between inside and out. Everything from the scavenged doors and windows to driftwood furniture, re-used bottles, re-invented trucks, and even the local food fare is a practice in the delicate art of simplicity. They have always lived true to the philosophy – ‘less is more’ and through it discovered a lifestyle that is fun, fascinating, chilled out, inspiring and just sublime.

The Mamma Shanti house is a home-away-from-home. They welcome in each person not as a guest but as a fellow dweller sharing in our secluded spot of serenity for as long as they choose. The house is comfortable and intimate offering all the lushness of modern amenities with the wildness of Sri Lanka growing on its doorstep. They offer two luxury, ensuite double rooms. Each is kitted with its own private wrap around balcony, hot water shower, and quite possibly the biggest bed you’ve ever had the pleasure of sinking into.

Program

In this retreat, you will spend three days in the jungles and three days in the mountains. You will begin your retreat at Banyan Camp, where you will spend three days, practicing different styles of yoga and meditative techniques under the guidance of an experienced teacher. There is no minimum number, so you may be lucky and have one-to-one tuition or in a small group with a maximum of four participants.

You will have a great opportunity to explore the amazing local nature during your visit to Udawalawe National Park and canoe ride on the lake.

You will start your trip to Ella after breakfast. You will spend all day, exploring the famous places, like Nine Arches bridge and Small Adams peak. Then, you will check in at Mamma Shanti around 6 p.m.

Salute the rise of each new day with an active Vinyasa practice, meditate at secluded spots hidden deep within the wild banana plantation and magical forest, and wind your way down with evening Yin and yoga Nidra sessions as the fireflies light up the night. From forest walks to mountain meanders, secret waterfalls, and undiscovered trails, sense satiating yoga, and delectable Sri Lankan bounty, this holiday has them all.

The Camp is nested inside the forest, on the bank of the magnificent Hambegamuwa lake,The area around Banyan Camp is sparsely populated, rugged country. Our closest neighbours are birds, butterflies, elephants, buffalo and so on. Temples and historical sites dot the vicinity while mountains, rivers, waterfalls, fields and plains come together to create a natural backdrop that is unspoiled and fascinating. Udawalawe National Park is 30 minutes drive from the camp.

Boasting a magnificent view of Ella Rock, Little Adam’s Peak and Ravana Waterfall, with only the sights and sounds of nature all around. Mamma Shanti makes the ideal getaway for the second leg of our yoga and meditation retreat. Salute the rise of each new day with an active Vinyasa practice, meditate at secluded spots hidden deep within the wild banana plantation and magical forest, and wind your way down with evening Yin and Yoga Nidra sessions as the fireflies light up the night. Food

During this retreat, you will be served three delicious locally sourced meals including a special traditional Sri Lankan breakfast by the lake and lunch with the village family. The authentic Sri Lankan meals are from a seasonal menu that is decided by what is growing in the local garden, what is selling at the local market, and what can be found locally.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner can be an abundant spread of local fruit, traditional Sri Lankan curries and salads, lots of bread and rice, and even a Western spread for those who don't favor the spicy cuisine. Please inform Sundaram YOGA SriLanka about any food preferences and they will make all arrangements.
