Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel to commence your transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You can make a stop at the Equator Crossing at Kayabwe for some fun pictures, refreshment or ignore that for when you return. You will continue your journey with a stop in Mbarara for your quick lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre. After lunch, you will continue onto Kisoro via Kabale. Once in Kisoro, you will continue on to the Rushaga area. On arrival, you will check-in at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Buhoma Lodge.

Day 3: Gorilla tracking and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Get up at 6:00 a.m. for a quick breakfast and transfer to the Rushaga gate of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park which is 25 kilometers (one hour drive) away. With packed lunch in your carry on, your guide will take you to the Rushaga tracking point before 8:00 a.m. for registration and a briefing on what to expect before commencing your tracking.

The guides will then take you through the bush, pushing your way through the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track the gorillas. Tracking can take from half an hour to five hours, so a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes.

When you finally locate the family that you are tracking, sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them grumble to each other and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male, the silverback.

It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rain forest in the knowledge you are in the presence of the few remaining Mountain Gorillas in the wild. After the mandatory one hour is up, the rangers and guides will lead you back to the starting point.

Your guide will then transfer you to Lake Bunyonyi for overnight stay. You can relax as you wait for dinner to be served.

Day 4: Transfer to Kampala and departure

This morning, after your breakfast, options to choose from include a canoe, a motorized boat tour of some of the 25 islands of Lake Bunyonyi and transfer back to Kampala with various stops including one at the Igongo Cultural Centre and Museum for your lunch. After lunch, you will continue on to Kampala where your guide will drop you off at Entebbe International Airport in time to check-in for your flight home.

Location

The highlight of this tour is the visit to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a verdant magnificent swathe of rain forest across the steep ridges of the Albertine Rift Valley. This ancient rain forest is one of the few on the African continent to have flourished and a home to half of the world’s endangered population of Mountain Gorillas.

Apart from gorilla tracking, the park boasts 90 mammal species, including 11 primates and prominent bird species. This treasure trove of flora and fauna is home to over 370 Mountain Gorillas, accommodating almost a half of the world’s population of Mountain Gorillas.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park will be your jumping-off point as you head your way through the bushes to see the Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat. An English speaking guide will accompany you in this activity.
