Shindzela Tented Safari Camp

Shindzela Tented Safari Camp (named after the honey badger in the African Shangaan language) is an authentic tented safari camp nestled within the Timbavati Private Game Reserve, Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa. It is from here that Shindzela brings you an affordable wildlife safari, where you can explore the African wilderness on game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles and on foot during walking safari trails.

Safari activities are conducted by professional and knowledgeable safari guides. The camp has an informal, relaxed atmosphere, and is alive with warm African hospitality. Shindzela offers guests a greater Kruger wildlife safari in a wilderness environment. They make use of solar-powered lights and gas geysers (for hot showers).

Shindzela is undisturbed by some of the modern conveniences such as television and preferring to immerse themselves in the African wilderness. Shindzela also has a swimming pool in the camp where guests can relax and overlook a small watering hole. The camp accommodates just 16 guests and offers both walking safaris and game drives twice daily.

Shindzela is a comfortable tented bush camp, set on the banks of a dry riverbed, facing a small watering hole. They offer an authentic African safari experience in a private and natural wilderness environment. Their safari tents can either be made up in twin or double bed accommodation. They set on wooden decks under thatch (grass) roofs each with their own en-suite shower, toilet, and hand basin. An upgrade for accommodation changes is also available.

Day 1: Johannesburg

Transportation to Timbavati is operated by a qualified driver who will pick you up in Johannesburg at 06:00 on the morning of your departure. All transfers are done in a luxury air-conditioned vehicle, where you will be transported via the Panorama Route to Timbavati. Panorama Route includes God’s Window, Lisbon Falls, and Graskop. There will be numerous stops along the way for comfort breaks and photo moments.

Upon arriving at Shindzela Tented Safari Camp or similar, you will be greeted by the friendly camp staff and have time to settle in and rest before embarking on the afternoon game drive. Timbavati has a high concentration of wildlife and is known for the predators, especially the cats. Although the Timbavati is a private reserve and is a more exclusive safari experience, it forms part of the greater Kruger Park with its borders being mainly unfenced with the national park. Late afternoon and into the evenings is a great time to spot wildlife, after which you will make your way to the camp for supper and an opportunity to have a relaxed evening.

Day 2 and 3: Kruger Park

You will be greeted with a cup of coffee before heading off for the morning game drive in a 4x4 safari vehicle, hopefully with an opportunity to spot the Big Five waking and roaming in your path. There is an alternative to go on a morning bush walk rather than the drive if you so prefer. Upon returning from your safari, you will be served a leisurely breakfast and have the remainder of the morning at the camp to catch up on sleep or resting at the pool.

Lunch will be served and there will be some more time to unwind before returning for an afternoon /sunset safari drive with your guide. Sunset will be spent in the bush, after which you will be returned to the camp for supper and spend the evening at your leisure.

Day 4: Johannesburg

In the early morning, you will head out for your morning game drive to spot the animals that have been eluding you on your safari experience. You will return to the camp for breakfast and check out, where Spurwing Tourism Services’ driver will be waiting to transfer you back to Johannesburg via Nelspruit.

Afternoon drive /night drive on the first day is subject to flight arrival times.

Included excursions

Road transfer from Johannesburg to Shindzela Tented Safari Camp is done via the Panorama Route. Along this drive, there will be stops at the following sites (entrance fees included)

Gods window

Situated on the Drakensberg escarpment in Mpumalanga is God’s Window. Just one look down and you will begin to understand why it is called "God's Window". With magnificent views, canyons, rock formations, and waterfalls, God's Window is truly an area of breathtaking scenic splendor. It is no wonder that Mpumalanga is known as Paradise Country. Gods Window is so called for the panoramic view of the Lowveld more than 900 m down into lush indigenous forest clad ravine. The majestic cliffs plunge over 700 meters to the Lowveld and the private game reserves which have made the area one of South Africa's main wildlife destinations. God's Window is a small part of a 250km long earthwork of sheer cliffs and extravagant beauty. One can observe the hills and forests as far as the eye can see. In fact, it seems as if one can see forever!

Lisbon Falls

The Lisbon Falls are situated in the heart of the waterfall area of Mpumalanga, where the number of these dramatic falls exceeds that of anywhere else in southern Africa. Lisbon Falls is 94 meters, or 308 feet, high, which makes it one of the highest in the province. Being located just north of Graskop forty minutes away from Hazyview outside the popular Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve, Lisbon Falls is convenient and accessible to locals and to visitors from all over the world. There are lovely trees nearby, under which a picnic with friends and family can be enjoyed while the vistas are savored. Bird lovers are also invited to visit Lisbon Falls and to keep an eye out for the many exciting avian species that inhabit the Panorama Route.

Pilgrims Rest

Pilgrim's Rest is situated on the magnificent Panorama Route in the Kruger Lowveld region of the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. The area is richly imbued with a diversity of natural, cultural and historic gems. The uniqueness of this historic village is vividly evident in its museums and historic sites. It offers the visitor a fascinating window into the past and captures the spirit of a bygone era and its people in their quest for gold.
