This one week safari is a delightful journey for travelers with limited time away from home, yet who desire an in-depth safari experience. Devoted exclusively to Kenya, for exactly a week you touch upon nearly all of the region’s highlights, experiencing exceptional wildlife throughout. The breadth and scope of this safari encompass everything for which Kenya is famous: the magnificent scenery, the breathtaking wildlife, the excitement and adventure, all in a time frame that suits your needs.
You will spend two nights at Amboseli Kibo Lodge, one night at Flamingo Hill Camp, and three nights at Mara Sopa Lodge.
Kibo Safari Camp is a luxury tented camp in Amboseli National Park, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. Kibo Safari Camp has 73 self-contained tents for single, double, triple, and family accommodation.
The beds have been custom designed and locally made using bush logs and will ensure a good night’s sleep. All tents have flush toilets, showers, and wash basins. You can enjoy your shower as you like: bubbling hot or refreshing cold.
Flamingo Hill Camp is small and exclusive, comprising 25 tents. The tents are furnished with the understated luxury required by the modern traveler. Decorated in calming safari tones, natural woods, wrought iron, and crisp cottons, each tent has been meticulously planned to maximize comfort.
All tents have the following facilities:
Located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills, the Maasai Mara Sopa Lodge was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, a reason why its gardens and trees are so lush and mature.
The lodge has 50 guest cottages divided into two wings to either side of the main public areas. Each of these houses has two spacious guest rooms with queen and king size beds, mosquito nets, electronic safes, dressing tables, en-suite bathrooms, and sheltered verandas that all have views over the gardens and the game reserve beyond.
Rise early to enjoy a delicious breakfast at your hotel. Depart by road to Amboseli National Park. There, you will experience your first game drive en-route to your lodge.
The park shelters more than 420 species of birds and has an enormous elephant population and other big game attracted to the area by underground springs fed from the melting snows of Mount Kilimanjaro. Lunch is served at the lodge, before departing for an afternoon game drive. Return to the lodge and enjoy a scrumptious dinner.
This morning you rise early for good views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Before clouds build up over the summit, you set off for a game drive. Amboseli is an excellent place to view a multitude of wildlife, including everything from wildebeest to giraffes and baboons.
A visit to a Maasai village is planned after breakfast. Midday finds you at your lodge for lunch and afternoon rest, followed by another game drive. Amboseli is home to the legendary Maasai tribesmen. Maasai warriors are a famous nomadic tribe whose legendary prowess in battle and single-handed acts of bravery in fights with the wild animals are known across the world.
Depart in the morning and drive to the floor of the Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park. Arrive at Lake Nakuru Flamingo Hill Camp in the afternoon and enjoy a game drive.
The lake is famous for flamingos, as well as over 400 other species of birds. In addition, many species of game can be found here, including the introduced Rothschild's giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reed buck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon, and many species of plains game.
Enjoy an early breakfast, check out, and proceed with a spice game drive en-route to Maasai Mara. A pleasant drive across the dramatic Great Rift Valley brings you to Narok Township, a Maasai business center. After a short stopover, continue to Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
This enormous reserve, actually part of the vast Serengeti plains, is famously known for its spectacular great wildebeest migration and is home to the big five - lion, elephant, rhino, cape buffalo, and leopard. A game drive will be conducted after lunch. Then, you will proceed to the lodge for an enjoyable dinner.
You spend the next two days in the Maasai Mara - one of the greatest wildernesses of the world - on morning and afternoon game drives. Large mammals are varied, abundant, and easy to see.
Residents among the park’s mammals are the Maasai giraffe, eland, topi, and thousands of plain game, including impalas, zebras, both Thomson and Grant's gazelles. Optional hot air balloon rides and a trip to Lake Victoria are available at an additional cost while in the Mara.
