Kidepo Valley National Park, the second biggest national park in Uganda is located in Kaabong District, the northeastern part of Uganda. During the rainy season, the park is blessed with two beautiful rivers which are Kidepo and Narus Rivers. The wildlife in Kidepo Valley National Park is like no other in Uganda, you will experience spectacular and untouched wilderness from over 70 mammal species and up to 470 bird species.
During the safari, you will be staying in an accommodation provided by Simba Africa Expeditions. The options are Apoka Rest Camp, Nga’moru Wilderness Camp, and Apoka Safari Lodge.
The travel to Kidepo Valley National Park will be a long journey. However, the drive will be accompanied by a lot of scenic viewing and sightseeing. You will be picked by Simba Africa Expeditions' representative and your guide very early in the morning as the trip should start at 05:00.
You will most definitely have lunch en-route that will be coupled with a lot of stopovers to stretch your legs and relax the muscles. You will arrive at Kidepo Valley National Park in approximately 13 hours. You will arrive late in the evening and check into your accommodation to later have dinner and a good night sleep.
You will enjoy an early morning game drive and view the park’s endowed diversity of wildlife such as elephants, leopard, warthogs, ostriches, buffaloes, giraffes, and lions. You will continue to enjoy bird watching in the Narus Valley. Some of the beautiful birds you will be seeing are the Abyssinian roller, purple heron, Abyssinian ground hornbill, and Clapperton’s francolin which is only found in Kidepo Valley.
After the game drive, you will return to the camp where you will have lunch and rest. You will then go for an evening cultural tour to interact with the Karamojong community. There, you will get an opportunity to see how the locals' daily lives, from the activities that keep them occupied all day to their cultural practices. You will realize why most Africans are reluctant to completely giving up on their traditional practices. You will later return to the lodge / hotel for your dinner and overnight stay.
Very early in the morning, you will have your breakfast and head out for a nature walk experience coupled with a brief drive to Kanangorok Hot Springs. You will pass some magnificent landscapes and rocky outcrops. Chances are you will get to see some ostriches as they are often seen in this part of the park.
You should later return to the hotel / lodge and have your lunch. After having a rest and relax for a bit, you will get ready for your evening game drive. The game drive will take less than 3 hours to look out for the wildlife as they retire for the day. When the game drive is done, you will drive back to your accommodation, relax, have your dinner, and get ready for your departure tomorrow.
Unlike the morning you left Kampala to come to Kidepo Valley National Park, you should be out on the road by at least 06:00 so that you do not get to Kampala so late. The travel time is approximately 13 hours.
On this safari, you will explore Kidepo Valley National Park. The national park is located in the northeastern part of the country, bordering Sudan and Kenya, in the Karamoja region.
