This safari will take place in the Luangwa Valley and the Victoria Falls in Zambia.
For many travelers, Zambia is known primarily for the grandeur of the Victoria Falls, yet a safari in Zambia is no mere add-on. Threaded with permanent rivers that prove a magnet for animals, Zambia is home to an enticing network of national parks, often less visited than their counterparts in Botswana, Tanzania or Kenya. Some of Zambia's national parks are considerably wilder.
The Luangwa Valley represents one of Southern Africa’s finest game viewing experiences. The valley comprises three national parks: the popular and easy to reach South Luangwa National Park which has 9,050 square kilometers, the much less visited and smaller North Lungwa National Park with 4,636 square kilometers, and the smallest of the three, the Luambe National Park with 300 square kilometers.
South Luangwa is Zambia’s best known and most frequently visited national park for its high standards of service and accommodation and top quality guiding. The park is served by Mfuwe Airport (MFU), which receives daily flights from the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN). South Luangwa enjoys high densities of game drives and the park is home to an endemic subspecies, the Thorncroft’s giraffes.
Victoria Falls is locally known as Mosi-O-Tunya which means "The Smoke that Thunders". David Livingstone, the Scottish missionary and explorer, is believed to have been the first European to view the falls in 1855 from an Island what is known as "Livingstone Islands". He gave the falls the name of "Victoria Falls" in honor of Queen Victoria.
During the high period and on the night of full moon and usually a day either side of the full moon, the Victoria Falls park is open until late to witness the mystical and spectacular lunar rainbow. The falls have a maximum height of 108 meters and a width of about 1,708 meters.
