Other safari camps and lodges

On the first and second night of the safari, you will be staying in safari camps and lodges.

Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara

Sheeqs Safaris' safari guide will pick you from your hotel and depart by road, driving through the rich Kikuyu farmlands to the edge of the Rift Valley. You will descend the escarpment and drive via Narok to Masai Mara Game Reserve with picnic lunch served en-route. The Masai Mara is classic African savannah and the sheer density of wildlife is amazing.

Masai Mara is famous for its black manned lion and yearly migrations of wildebeest and zebra, elephant, buffalo, rhino, gazelle, leopards, and giraffe are also found here. You will have an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight will be at a safari camp or lodge.

Day 2: Masai Mara

After breakfast, you will go for a full day spent viewing and exploring this spectacular national park. Wherever you go in the Mara, you will see an astonishing amount of wildlife. Of the big cats, lions are found in large prides everywhere. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot but are still fairly common. After the game drive, you will return to your safari camp or lodge and have dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru

After breakfast, you will depart Masai Mara for Lake Nakuru with picnic lunch en-route. On arrival, you will check in at City Max Hotel and have lunch. A short nap will be followed by an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight will be at City Max Hotel.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru to Nairobi

After breakfast, you will spend the morning watching and photographing the birds and wild animals in Lake Nakuru National Park. You will depart the lodge after lunch and leave for Nairobi, stopping for panoramic views of the Great Rift Valley en-route. You will arrive in Nairobi in the afternoon.

    A true African experience

CONS Cons: We had to alter our inflexible American expectations on this trip. Things in Kenya don't operate on our usual timelines or always within our plans. When we arrived, we were told that our schedule had been altered. We were meant to go to Massai Mara first, then transfer to Nakuru, but the company swapped the order. Because of the long drive from Massai Mara back to Nairobi, this conflicted with some plans we had made at the end of our trip and eliminated one game drive. It all worked out and we made it back to Nairobi on time. A few things to note: - The photos in the listing aren't the ones of the actual accommodations. We stayed in a basic hotel in the city of Nakuru and in a canvas tent in Massai Mara. We enjoyed the rugged tents, but for people expecting more luxurious accommodations, you may want to look elsewhere. - The tours do not include water as stated on the website, however it is available for purchase at the resort. - The tour drives last all day and you are in the wilderness. Don't expect a restroom while you are out there. Bring toilet paper and be prepared to use a "bush toilet. - The tour companies are trying to accommodate many small groups in the most economical way possible. They are creative in how they do this. Expect downtimes of waiting and for guides to change plans last minute often without informing you. - You do a lot of driving. It is 7 hours from Nairobi to Mara (2.5 on a rough dirt road), and 7-9 hours from Mara to Nakuru (including stops).

PROS Pros: The game parks are magical. There is so much wildlife and our guide did a great job of helping us find the illusive animals. We saw every African animal imaginable and had a great experience on the drives. We had great hospitality at the tent camp. It is quite the adventure. We went in September during the Wildebeest migration and would recommend seeing that. It was unbelievable to watch thousands of these amazing animals crossing the plains. We loved meeting people from all over the world who have also ventured out the these beautiful places. Despite a few of the things listed below, seeing the animals made everything worth it when we just let go and enjoyed the ride. Hakuna Matata.
