The Lenchada Tourist Camp

The Lenchada Tourist Camp is a budget semi luxury accommodation and eco-friendly safari tented camp just outside the gates of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, resting along a stream valley overlooking picturesque hills and rolling plains of Oloolaimutia in Mara National Game Reserve. The camp is surrounded by a natural environment, waking up to bird twittering and roaring of lions, hyena’s monkey's drama in the bush.

All the tents have en-suite bathrooms equipped with safari showers, hand wash basins, flush toilets. The game drives will be carried out in the specially designed 4x4 game-viewing vehicles driven by an experienced and multilingual safari guide. In addition to game drives you can choose to start a walking safari directly from the camp. Guided by a Masai warrior you will explore the flora and fauna and approach giraffes, zebras and impalas very closely.

Program

Day 1: Nairobi - Masai Mara

This is a group joining safari meaning you will be in a safari van with a maximum of eight people. Each person will get enough room on the roof during the entire safari and game drives. You will be picked from your hotel and drive to Masai Mara travel in a comfortable adapted mini-van with a pop-up roof for optimum scenic and wildlife viewing en-route to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. You will stop over at Narok for lunch before proceeding to the Mara.

Upon arrival at the reserve, you will proceed to your afternoon game drive. As the temperature cools in the late afternoon, the predators of the Mara start preparing for the evening hunt. For the Big Cats - the lions, the cheetah, and the leopards - the Migration Season is a time of abundance.

During your afternoon game drive, you will witness how the constant battle for survival makes the Migration Season a particularly exhilarating time to visit Masai Mara. As the sun sets you will return to camp for check in and dinner, followed by stargazing and story-time around the fireplace. When you’re ready, one of the Maasai night guards - known as Askaris - will escort you back to your tent. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 2: Masai Mara

Awake to the magnificent ‘wake up call’ symphony of Masai Mara’s astonishing birdlife. Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast before embarking on a full day safari in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Abundant wildlife on the savannah gives fantastic photo opportunities. The incredible backdrop of clear blues and the rolling savannah will captivate you providing you with memories to last a lifetime.

Catch the action at the crossing point and stalk the herds just like the lions and the cheetahs, capturing them with your lens and in your heart. Enjoy an exceptional wilderness migration holiday; there is never a dull moment on the savannah. Return to camp at sundown for dinner followed by relaxation at the campfire as you tell of your experiences on the African wilderness.

Alternatively, you may as a group opt for a full day at the Masai Mara Game Reserve, with picnic lunch (packed lunch) with dinner and overnight at Lenchada Tourist Camp.

Day 3: End of tour

Wake at dawn in time for a final morning game drive. Witness how the savannah comes alive as the sun rises. Return for breakfast. After breakfast collect your things and say your goodbyes. Just like the wildebeest, the time has come to wander on. Leaving the Masai Mara after breakfast with picnic lunches and drive towards Nairobi, traversing the vast plains of Maasai land on the floor of rift valley, keeping an eye out for herds of giraffe and gazelles as you head up the Mau escarpment.

Enjoy the amazing views at the Great Rift Valley as you drive back, stopping on the way for curios and to admire and marvel at the breathtaking views of the escarpment along the way. You will arrive in Nairobi in the late afternoon where our driver will take you back to your hotel.

Location

Maasai Mara National Reserve

The Masai Mara together with Tanzania’s Serengeti form Africa’s most famous wildlife park, the Masai Mara National Reserve. The image of acacia trees dotting endless grass plains epitomizes Africa for many, then adds a Maasai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further. The undeniable highlight of the Masai Mara National Reserve is undoubtedly the annual wildebeest migration traversing the vast plains of the Serengeti and the Masai Mara.

It is known as the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet - with more than a million animals following the rains. Large prides of lions, elephants, giraffes, gazelles and eland can also be spotted in the reserve. Aside from horse riding safaris and traditional vehicle safaris, hot-air ballooning over the Mara plains has become almost essential.

Things to do (optional)

Hot air balloon flight

Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve is the ultimate ballooning destination. The landscape is stunning and free, and the abundant wildlife can make for spectacular viewings from above. As this is a wilderness area contiguous with the Serengeti National Park of Tanzania, with free-ranging wildlife that is not fenced in.

Typically, you may see a good diversity of animals and it is likely you will spot elephants, giraffes, various antelope species, and ostriches from the balloon. You may also see hyenas, lions, and cheetahs, and ballooning is one of the best ways to search for the elusive black rhino, of which there are less than 40 in the Mara. Depending on the day’s flight path, you may also drift along one of the rivers and see hippos and crocodiles.

If you visit the Mara between July and October, you will probably see the “Great Migration” of over a million wildebeest, along with large numbers of zebras and gazelles. Observing this phenomenon from the balloon is the best way to grasp just how huge the migrating herds really are, and is an experience not to be missed. Regardless of whether the “Big Five” are seen from the balloon, most people say that the balloon flight was a highlight of their safari.
