Then, you will go back to the Butembo Lodge for dinner and overnight stay on full board basis.

Day 2: Full day game drive

Enjoy a full day game viewing in the reserve. Participate in some classic style game drives - exploring the bush in 4x4 vehicles. During the game drives, one might be lucky enough to see a pack of African wild dog, even though they are becoming extinct in most parts of Africa, they are thriving in the Selous. Just bear in mind that the Selous Game Reserve is larger than Switzerland and Denmark and has the largest population of elephant in Tanzania, as well as large number of buffalos, hippos, and wild dogs. To be seen also are an array of lions, elands, bushbuck, giraffes, impalas, baboons, zebras, crocodiles, and greater kudus, just to name but a few. Also, it might be your lucky day to spot the rare sable antelope.

After a picnic lunch under a shade of a giant baobab, you are ready for yet another feast of the eyes and ears. You will spend the afternoon watching and enjoying the animals in their different habitats. Late afternoon game drives are enchanting. This is the time when most animals are returning from hunting and are preparing for the night. The light is magic and the color is mesmerizing, not to mention the vastness of the savannah under the blue skies of the great Selous. In the early evening, you will return back to Butembo Lodge for your dinner and rest.

The thrill of being close up to the animals and to shoot them with your camera is one of the greatest unforgettable experiences one carries back to the civilized world. Thereafter, you will go back to the Butembo Lodge for breakfast. The hours before an early lunch are for resting after an early walking safari, which can be a bit taxing depending on the weather.
