Experience the wildebeest migration in the magical Kenya where you begin the safari with a tour of the Amboseli National Park, located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Here, the big elephant herds and pink flamingos are a must-see. Proceed to witness the annual Great Wildebeest Migration where the river crossing at the Mara River is the highlight of the tour. With this tour, you will get stunning views of the Maara and stunning views of the Mara and it is also ideal for the whole family.
During this safari tour, you will be staying in various accommodations in a private room or a private double room.
Set on 200 acres of private land and with a rustic charm all of its own, the lodge nestles in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at almost six thousand meters, is Africa’s highest and most famous snow-capped mountain.
Amboseli Sopa Lodge is set within mature wooded gardens with a wide variety of trees and plants which include thorn trees, Acacias, fragrant Frangipanis, colorful bougainvillea, and giant cacti which all thrive in these surroundings. The gardens are also home to numerous species of birds, as well as monkeys, mongooses, squirrels, duikers, the occasional gazelle and, once in a while, even an ever inquisitive leopard.
Rustic, well spaced cottages meander through the vast expanse of the mature gardens and house the eighty three guest rooms. These are all brightly decorated with Maasai themed wall murals, and each room has been purposely built to contain either one or two queen sized beds, as well as a veranda.
Set in one hundred and fifty acres of grassland studded with Acacia bushes and trees, the resort is not only home to the resident giraffes, waterbucks, and both Vervet and Colobus monkeys. It is also a night stop for the hippos when they leave the lake every night to come and trim the grass on the expansive lawns. With Sopa’s traditional and conscientious care for the environment, all the buildings have been carefully positioned on the property no trees were cut.
As a result of this, the lodge had to come up with a radically innovative and artistic design for the main public area building which now snakes its way between the trees with long and graceful curves. For this reason, the two swimming pools with a children’s section and a pool complex with its bar, snack kitchen, pizzeria, health spa, tennis court, two conference halls with their four differently sized meeting areas, and stables are so widely set apart.
Other facilities in the lodge include sundowners, a gift shop, board games, outdoor dining, free Wi-Fi, sauna, and wheelchair accessible rooms. Rooms include bedroom kettles, hairdryers, telephones, and a television. The lodge also has adjoining rooms, babysitting services, laundry, and turndown service. Other activities you may want to indulge in at the lodge are fishing, horseriding, birdwatching, and nature walks.
Located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills, the Maasai Mara Sopa Lodge was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, a reason why its gardens and trees are so lush and mature. The lodge has 50 guest cottages divided into two wings to either side of the main public areas. Each of these houses has two spacious guest rooms with queen and king size beds, mosquito nets, electronic safes, dressing tables, en-suite bathrooms, and sheltered verandas that all have views over the gardens and the game reserve beyond.
You begin your safari by arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi, Kenya where Samson's Safaris representative will be waiting to receive the team. (Advisable to arrive early morning). Get transferred to your city hotel for check-in. In the afternoon, head out for a City Tour where you visit the Giraffe Center and Kobe Beads Factory. Later, go to the Carnivore Restaurant for a game meat dinner experience (vegetarian menu available). Transfer back to the hotel for overnight.
After pickup from your city hotel, an early morning start and drive to Amboseli National Park. Check-in at accommodation and lunch. Head out for a game viewing drive at 3 p.m. where you will search for the big elephant herds, lions, giraffes, and antelopes among other wildlife. At sunset, head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Rising early for good views of Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds build up over the summit with a packed lunch provided, an optional visit to a Masai village can be planned after breakfast. A visit reveals the singing and dancing that are part of their daily lives and sacred rituals. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience.
Despite its changing habitat, Amboseli National Park is possibly the best wildlife area in the whole of Africa to experience elephants at close range. Less harassed by poachers, elephants feeding and bathing in the swamps must form the highlights of any safari. Evening relaxation at the lodge followed by dinner.
An early morning drive to Lake Naivasha is the highest and the most beautiful of the Rift Valley lakes. At 1910 meters (6200 feet), the water is fresh and the lake is fringed with dense clumps of papyrus (ancient Egyptians once used this to make paper). Kingfishers use the papyrus as a perch, herons hide in it while searching for food.
After lunch, you will head out for a boat ride searching for the hippo families and a variety of bird species found here. You will then proceed to Crescent Island for a walking safari where you interact with the giraffes, wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes taking up-close photos and enjoying the views. We ride back to the mainland and transfer you back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Depart early morning to Maasai Mara National Reserve. Arrive in time for lunch then have an afternoon game drive. Mara holds on as one of the few places on earth where wildlife still lives comparatively undisturbed, in the numbers that once roamed the plains and forests of Africa. As the northern tip of the vast Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara hosts the spectacular seasonal migration of many thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and attendant predators.
After breakfast, you will have a full-day game drive, with a packed lunch provided. The reserve is well known for its black-manned lion, as well as its abundant resident wildlife and it’s one of the few places where it’s possible to see the big five during a morning’s game drive. Optional hot air balloon ride early morning.
Morning after breakfast departs with an en-route game drive. Experience a cultural tour where you learn about the Maasai Culture at the Maasai Village. You will later drive to Nairobi with a stopover for lunch at Narok. Proceed to arrive in Nairobi where you are transferred to the airport for your journey home.
During this safari tour, you will be served daily meals as per itinerary. Meals on full-board are provided as well as Carnivore Game Meat Dinner experience on your first day and complimentary lunch on the last day.
