Nakuru Sopa Lodge

Located on a range of hills that form the western limits of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, the lodge offers spectacular views over the vastness of Africa. The lodge also overlooks Lake Nakuru and its surrounding National Park, one that is a paradise for bird watchers and wildlife lovers alike.

Mara Sopa Lodge

Mara Sopa Lodge is located high on the slopes of the Oloolaimutia Hills, and was one of the first safari lodges to be built in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, a reason why its gardens and trees are so lush and mature. All the buildings follow the design of traditional African round houses with conical roofs, and these stretch along the line of the hills with the impressively large public area buildings and the swimming pool at their center.

Program

Day 1: Nairobi – Nakuru

Early morning pick up from your city hotel then drive to the Lake Nakuru National Park, known all over the world for its flamingoes and is recognized as being one of the natural wonders of the world. Lake Nakuru is now a rhino sanctuary, harboring a population of over 40 black and over 60 white rhinos, but the flamingos have always been the main attraction. At times there may be almost 2 million flamingos in residence, forming a stunningly beautiful deep pink band around the edge of the lakeshore. Arrive in time for lunch and have an afternoon game drive.

Day 2: Lake Nakuru – Maasai Mara

An early morning drive to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, it holds on as one of the few places left on earth where wildlife still lives comparatively undisturbed, in the numbers that once roamed the plains and forests of Africa. As the northern tip of the vast Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara hosts the spectacular seasonal migration of many thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and attendant predators. Arrive in time for lunch then have an afternoon game drive.

Day 3: Maasai Mara

After breakfast, you have a full-day game drive with a packed lunch provided. The reserve is well known for its black-manned lion, and its abundant resident wildlife and it is one of the few places where it’s possible to see the big five during a morning’s game drive. Many of the cheetahs are so tame they seek shelter from the hot sun under one’s vehicle and several even climb onto the roof to get a better view of prospective prey.

The Mara hosts the spectacular seasonal migration of many thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and attendant predators.

Day 4: Maasai Mara – Nairobi

Morning game drive in Mara and depart late in the morning to Nairobi, arriving at about 5 p.m. Lunch en route.

Included excursions

  • Maasai cultural visit
