Welcome to Tanzania. You can arrive at the Zanzibar International Airport at any time today as the official start of the tour is only the next day. A representative from Sama Tours will be waiting at the airport to take you to your hotel in in the north of Zanzibar. This morning you are up bright and early to make your way to Stone Town. You enjoy a tour through the narrow winding streets of Zanzibar’s capital, taking time to visit the spice markets, and learn about Zanzibar’s history. If time allows you will enjoy a rooftop lunch, before boarding a flight to Kilimanjaro. Look out for views of the highest mountain in Africa as the plane lands in Arusha. Today's meal plan includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
This morning Sama Tours will hand over the motorcycles and have a detailed tour briefing. Next up a local biker guide will take you on an exciting tour of the Kilimanjaro foothills. En-route, you will ride into Kilimanjaro National Park and visit some waterfalls and hot pools as well as a few other surprise stops. This is the perfect day ride to get used to the bikes!
Tonight, you will enjoy a Tanzanian feast. Dinner will be served with more than twenty assorted Tanzanian dishes, which you can wash down with some local brew, while you are entertained by traditional drumming and dancing. Please note you will only be able to ride in Kilimanjaro Park if you are able to obtain permit. Meals include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
After an early breakfast we depart for Karatu, which is located right in the heart of the Safari Circuit. Karatu is situated on the edge of Ngorogoro Crater and surrounded by national parks and wildlife. You will enjoy a night in a wonderful African lodge as you prepare for the up-coming safari. Today you are up bright and early to start a three-day / two-night safari into the spectacular Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Parks. The Serengeti is world renowned for its large lion population and its one of the best places in Africa to view prides in the wild. Approximately 70 large mammal and 500 bird species are found there.
This high diversity is a function of diverse habitats, including riverine forests, swamps, kopjes, grasslands, and woodlands. Blue wildebeests, gazelles, zebras, and buffalos are some of the commonly found large mammals in the region. Tonight, you sleep in a luxurious camp in the middle of the wild plains. Fall asleep to the sound of lions roaring in the distance. Today's meal plan includes breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Up with sun, you once again have a full day to explore the wild plains of the Serengeti. Mid morning you arrive back at the camp to have a delicious "bush" brunch. Today, you visit a traditional Masai homestead to see how the indigenous people of the Serengeti live in harmony with the wild animals who share their land. You will get to meet the locals and see their fascinating Jumping Dance.
In the late afternoon, you will venture out of camp again to enjoy another game drive to see nocturnal animals in their natural habitat. Today's meal plan includes breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Today is a major highlight of the safari as you drive down into Ngorongoro Crater. This caldera is 610 meters deep and its floor covers 260 square kilometers. Twenty five thousand large mammals live within this crater, making for unbelievable wildlife viewing in a confined area. After an amazing morning of wildlife viewing we head back to the lodge, where your motorcycles are waiting for the next leg of this exciting motorcycle adventure! Today you ride south to Tanzania’s official capital city, Dodoma. The hotel is situated is the midst of the hustle and bustle, a welcome oasis with a pool, bar, and restaurant. Today's meals include breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Today’s ride is very scenic and as you ride up and over several beautiful mountain ranges and enjoy the scenery of rural Tanzania. In the early afternoon you will arrive at the "Old Farm House." This is an Iconic stop on the African overland route. You will spend the night on a working farm that is run by a local family who will amaze you with their hospitality and home cooked food. Today's meal plan includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Today you travel further south through 0 to the edge of the Great East African Rift Valley, where you spend the night on a working coffee farm! Here the farm comes alive in June and July when it is harvesting time. You will arrive in the late afternoon, but there should still be time to enjoy a coffee tour and taste the Untengule coffee. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
After an early breakfast, you will your ride way down the Southern Highlands of Tanzania and into Malawi where you will get your first glimpse of Lake Malawi or “The Lake of Stars,” the third largest in Africa and the eighth largest in the world.
The tropical waters are reportedly the habitat of more species of fish than those of any other body of freshwater on Earth, making it a top diver location. You will spend the first night in Malawi right on the lake shore with views of the beautiful azure waters. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
You will enjoy more riding through Malawi as you head south along the lake to Ngala Beach. There are bicycles everywhere and you will see the friendly Malawian people going about their daily lives, selling fresh produce at the market, displaying their daily catch, and thousands of kids walking to school.
You should arrive early and you can spend the afternoon enjoying lake activities. Take out a paddle ski for free, play a game of beach volleyball, enjoy the local bird life, or enjoy a lake or swim cruise on the Temba Tumba. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Enjoy a rest day on the shores of the beautiful lake. There are many water based activities to partake in, including diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, or a day trip on a dhow. There is also fishing available or you could buy a Chambo fish which is unique to the lake and get the chef at the lodge to barbecue it for you, yum!
During the day, you will also go on a tour to the local fishing village, an eye-opening experience. It truly is a magical place! Meals included are breakfast and dinner.
You will make your way into Zambia and up to South Luangwa National Park, an icon in Zambia. You will sleep in a wildlife camp on the banks of the Luangwa River in Zambia. South Luangwa National Park is a world-famous safari destination and offers some of the best guides in Africa!
The area is known as the birthplace of walking safaris and is one of the few parks in Africa that allows night safaris. In the evening, enjoy a nighttime safari into the magical park. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
You will enjoy an early morning game safari or walk into South Luangwa Park before riding the short distance to Chipata in the afternoon. You will see that the Zambian people are very friendly and welcoming. At night, you will celebrate another great day’s ride over a delicious dinner. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
You are officially halfway through the tour. You will have already seen so much and even more to look forward too. You will depart Chipata early and ride through Zambia to your lodge for the night which is situated just before Lusaka, a buzzing metropolis and capital city. It is a very basic lodge but the beer is cold and the smiles are warm! There, you will also enjoy the chance to sleep in African style chalets. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Day 17 is a major highlight of the trip. It is a long ride to Zambia but at the end of the day, you will be rewarded with the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls, known to locals as “The Smoke the Thunders.” In the late afternoon, you will arrive at the resort hotel located right on the edge of the falls.If you arrive early enough, you can enjoy a stroll along the pathways surrounding the falls, sharing the amazing views of tumbling water with inquisitive baboons playing in the spray from the falls. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
You have the whole day free to enjoy all the activities that Victoria Falls has on offer. Included in the tour price is a helicopter flight over the falls. It is known as “The Flight of Angels” and is the best way to see the falls. Other optional activities include walking with lions, canoeing down the Zambezi, riding elephants, and enjoying river rafting on the mighty Zambezi.
There are also tours available where you can swim either above or below the tumbling waters of the falls! The hotel opens right onto the Victoria Falls view site. So if you feel like you want a relaxed day, you can wander over to the view site at your own leisure, relax at the pool, and enjoy some high tea at the Royal Livingstone Hotel next door. It will be a short ride from Zambia into Botswana where you will get to Chobe National Park in the early afternoon. The luxury African lodge is situated right on the Chobe River with views of all kinds of animals and birds that call the river their home. In the afternoon, you will embark on a boat safari.
Chobe National Park is the only place in the world where you can enjoy a Big Five safari by boat. On the boat cruise, you will literally see a thousand elephants playing in the reeds and mud pools. If you are lucky, you might even see elephants swimming across the river. Hippos and crocodiles will also be an exciting sight. Get your cameras ready. Botswana is probably the wildest country that you will ride through. There are no fences around nature reserves and as you will ride south through the country. You are likely to see elephants feeding on the side of the road! You will arrive in Nata in the late afternoon and embark on a safari out on to the Makgadigadi Salt Pans. It is interesting to see the beautiful salt pans that actually form part of the largest in the world. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Heading further south, you will make your way down to the Botswana-South Africa border. You will sleep on the Limpopo River which is full of crocodiles and hippos and enjoy a dinner in a beautiful African boma. If you are lucky some local African kids will perform their native dance. Fall asleep listening to the great sounds of the African night such as lions roaring in the distance. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
It will be a short ride to the South African-Botswana border. After border procedures, you will enter in South Africa, known to the locals as the “Rainbow Nation.” You will see that South Africa is very much a first-world, third-world country with great quality roads and infrastructure.
You will make your way to Magoebaskloof, a little misty town up in the mountains. There is a lot to do at the hotel. You can take a walk to the waterfall, spotting birds and Samango monkeys along the way, and you can chill out at the Phoenix and Fireman Pub! Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
You will make your way down into Mpumalanga, an area known to local bikers as “Motorcycle Paradise.” The roads there are beautiful and curvy and there are so many great viewpoints, rock formations, and waterfalls along the way. The route includes stops at Bourke’s Luck Potholes, The Three Rondavels, and God’s Window.
There are so many attraction signs posted along the way that you may just wish to pull off and experience a few of them. You will arrive in Hazyview in the late afternoon. At night, you will enjoy a traditional African meal and African dance at the Shangana cultural village. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Today, you will bid goodbye to the motorcycles and board a game viewing safari vehicle which will transport you into Kruger National Park. The world-famous wildlife reserve is home to the Big Five and is roughly the size of a small country. The vastness of the park allows ample opportunity to view wild animals in their natural habitat.
You will have half the day to spot lions, elephants, birds, and many different species of animals. In the afternoon, there will be an optional motorcycle ride over the famous "Long Tom Pass," a must for anyone who like twisties! Meals include breakfast and lunch.
It will be a long ride to the interior of South Africa. In the late afternoon, you will arrive in Clarens. It is a small arty town on the outskirts of Golden Gate National Park surrounded by beautiful sandstone cliffs. Clarens is an artist’s paradise. Poets, painters, and sculptors from all corners come to Clarens to witness its famous golden sunsets.
Spend the late afternoon wandering around the craft shops and have dinner in one of the numerous restaurants in town. Clarens also has its very own brewery where you can taste some local beers and ciders. Meals included are breakfast and lunch.
The ride will be unbelievably scenic. You will ride down through the Golden Gate National Park. The park is made up of sandstone cliffs with scenic rocks and other interesting landforms. Watch out for antelopes and Vervet monkeys crossing the road.
You will be in the wild there! You will spend the rest of the day riding through the majestic Drakensberg Mountains and arrive at the Sani Pass hotel in the early afternoon. If the weather is good and time allows, there will also be an optional dirt ride up to the highest point of Drakensberg. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
You will have a rest day at the Sani Pass hotel. Sama Tours has included a four-by-four trip up the Sani Pass and into Lesotho, a small mountainous country completely surrounded by South Africa.
For those that are very experienced at dirt riding, you will be able to do the tour on your motorcycles but for those who are not to confident or with their wives or non-riding partners, a four-by-four escort will be arranged. Sani Pass is a very technical ride with hairpin bends, rocky sections, and vertical drop-offs.
Once in Lesotho, where a passport is required, you will enjoy a visit to a village where you can taste some local beer. Later, you can enjoy a meal at the “highest pub in Africa” before returning to the Sani Pass Hotel for the night. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Leaving the rolling hills of the Drakensberg behind, you will make your way to Eastern Cape, to your lodge just outside East London. You will sleep right on one of the most beautiful surfing beaches in the country. You will enjoy an amazing meal and fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing below you. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
You will make your way through the rolling hills of the Eastern Cape, stopping to see the Giant Pineapple in Bathurst. In the early afternoon, you will arrive at Addo Elephant National Park, home to Africa's famous Big Five. Later, you will embark on a sunset game drive in an open safari vehicle. Addo is famous for its large herds of elephants. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Today you follow the coastal route to the start of the famous Garden Route. You ride into the Tsitsikamma National Park and sleep in wooden cabins overlooking Storms River Mouth. You will have the whole afternoon free to explore this beautiful National Park. Storms River is the start of our famous “Otter Trail” and you can walk part of the hike down to the breath-taking suspension bridges between the sea cliffs. Enjoy an evening spent in this very unique camp overlooking the Indian Ocean. Breakfast, lunch, dinner are included.
Today you ride the world-famous Garden Route. Your first stop is the spectacular Bloukrans Gorge. Bloukrans is home to the world highest bungee jump, 216 meters of pure Adrenalin. Next up you ride into Knysna and marvel at the beautiful Knysna Heads. From here riders can either take the dirt or tar route to Oudtshoorn.
Both options include unbelievable views and the spectacular mountain roads that the Garden Route is Known for. You will arrive in Oudtshoorn, the Ostrich Capital of South Africa, in the late afternoon. This will be your home for the next two nights. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included.
Today is a rest day, but there is so much to see and do. You will have a guided tour of the Cango Caves with its beautiful stalactites and stalacmites and a tour of a working Ostrich farm where you will get to feed, touch and hug Ostriches.
For those who would like to do some more exciting dirt riding, there will be an optional ride over the famous Swartberg Pass. This is a bucket list ride for adventure bikers the world over. This afternoon, relax and enjoy the warm Karoo hospitality that this area is known for. This evening you will be treated to a traditional Ostrich braai (barbecue) that will tantalize your taste buds. Breakfast and dinner are included.
After an early breakfast, you make your way to the start of Route 62. The road winds through the Swartberg Mountains and beautiful foothills in their valleys. You make your way down to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa at 34° S and 20° E. Here the ice cold waters of the Atlantic ocean meet the warm Indian ocean, creating a turbulent mixture of untamed beauty.
There is always a party at Cape Agulhas, as you celebrate reaching the most southern point of Africa. There are great photo opportunities at the Southern most tip! Today's meal plan includes breakfast, lunch, dinner.
Just as you thought that the riding couldn’t get any better, you are blown away once again by the beautiful Roads of Cape. Today the route hugs the coastline all the way, with beautiful mountains on the right and the ocean on the left stretching as far as the eye can see. You also have some exciting stops planned.
You will visit Betty’s Bay to see African penguins hanging out on the beach, Simons town to see the grave of a Navy Dog and finally Cape Point Peninsula (a definite highlight of the trip) where the warm waters of False Bay meet the cold Atlantic Ocean. You make your way into Cape Town in the late afternoon, enjoying the views of Table Mountain towering over the city. Tonight you go out to one of Cape Town’s best restaurants to celebrate the end of an amazing tour! Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Cape Town is such a beautiful city and is really worth staying for a few extra nights after the tour. Knysna is a beautiful little town at the start of the famous Garden Route. It is situated on a lagoon that is sheltered from the open sea by two large "heads" that form a narrow causeway. The highlight of staying in Knysna is, of course, the sailing trips on offer and the famous Knysna oysters. The whole town is surrounded by evergreen forests. Within easy reach of the town are beautiful swimming beaches and terrific mountain passes are perfect for motorcycling. The Knysna Elephant Sanctuary is also close by. There you can interact with orphaned elephants.
The Garden Route is famous for of its beautiful scenery and endless mountain passes with sweeping corners. Sama Tours usually does a day tour of the Garden Route that includes driving both the Outeniqua Pass and the Swartberg pass. You will stop off at a local ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn where you can pet, feed, kiss, and ride ostriches. Another highlight is a visit to the Cango Caves. The caverns are full of beautiful stone formations.
Cape Town is one of the best motorcycling destinations in South Africa. There are beautiful mountains such as Table Mountain and the 12 Apostles, as well as beautiful coastal roads. Of course, there is Cape Point, the most southwesterly point in Africa.
During this tour, you will be provided 35 breakfasts, 28 lunches, and 34 dinners throughout the trip. Bottled water, tea, coffee, and snacks are also included.
