Program

Day 1: Arrive in South Africa (approximately 50 kilometers / 31 miles)

Welcome to South Africa. It is a bonus night, so you can arrive anytime as the tour only officially starts in the morning of June 30, 2018. Cape Town is such a beautiful city with so much to do and see that Sama Tours is sure you would enjoy a couple of extra days in the city before the tour starts. Your hotel for the night is situated at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and at night, you will enjoy a tour briefing and fill out all the paperwork followed by a welcome dinner.

Day 2: Cape Town - Cape Point - Cape Agulhas (approximately 352 kilometers / 219 miles)

You will start the tour of Africa with one of the most scenic rides you will ever take, over Chapman’s Peak, all the way to Cape Point Peninsula. From there, you will ride coastal roads all the way through Simon’s Town to Betty’s Bay where you will stop to see African penguins chilling on the beach. Next up, you will journey to the Southernmost Tip of Africa in Cape Agulhas! It is the symbolic starting point for the trip all the way up to Kilimanjaro. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 3: Cape Agulhas - Ceres (approximately 300 kilometers / 186 miles)

On day three, you will make your way up through the beautiful wine lands of Cape Town and into the Cederberg Mountains to Ceres. En-route, you will stop in the gorgeous small town of Franschhoek or French Corner in the Cape Winelands for lunch. At night, the resort you will be staying at has numerous hot pools to choose from, all fed from the local springs. It will be a great way to relax after a long day of motorcycle riding! Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 4: Ceres - Springbok (approximately 500 kilometers / 311 miles)

The scenery will change drastically as you make your way even further north through the Northern Cape towards Namibia. At night, you will sleep in Springbok, a one-horse town right in the center of the Namaqualand flower region. Unfortunately, there are no wildflowers in July. However, Springbok is known for its peace and tranquility.

At night, you will be staying at a lodge where you are guaranteed to “find the magic in Namaqualand.” Because Springbok is literally in the middle of nowhere, the stargazing is phenomenal, so relax and enjoy the constellations. Meals include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 5: Springbok - Fish River Canyon, Namibia (approximately 320 kilometers / 199 miles)

On day four, you will make your way to Africa’s largest canyon, the Fish River Canyon. The canyon is 160 kilometers long, up to 27 kilometers wide, and 550 meters deep in some places. The views over the canyon will take your breath away! There will also be some dirt riding but in all good hard-packed gravel roads. At night, you will sleep in the desert at a beautiful lodge designed around the natural boulder formations. Welcome to the wild west! Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 6: Fish River Canyon rest day (approximately 0 - 50 kilometers / 0 - 31 miles)

You will enjoy a rest day in Fish River Canyon. You will take the bikes on a wonderful ride through the desert to see the Fish River Canyon in all its glory. You have the rest of the day free to relax and enjoy all the optional activities in the park. Meals included are breakfast and dinner.

Day 7: Fish River Canyon - Lake Oanob (approximately 550 kilometers / 342 miles)

You will make your way up through Namibia to Lake Oanob. The lodge for the evening is built on the banks of the very scenic Oanob Dam. Majestic mountains are set on fire by spectacular sunsets. From your patio, you can see the reflections of the moon and stars on the lake. 6,200 hectares of unspoiled nature provides the perfect haven for an abundance of free roaming game. Relax and unwind in the beautiful setting. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 8: Lake Oanob - Swakopmund (approximately 458 kilometers / 285 miles)

Leaving early, you will travel through Namibia to Swakopmund, situated on the Atlantic Ocean. As you get closer to Swakopmund, you will see the spectacular desert landscape. Swakopmund is famous for its sand dunes, adventure activities, great waves, and German hospitality. That will be your home for the next two nights. There are many great restaurants to choose from close to the hotel. Meals included are breakfast and lunch.

Day 9: Swakopmund rest day (60 kilometers / 37 miles)

You will have a rest day in Swakopmund to enjoy all the adventure activities on offer. As part of the tour, the team has included a quad bike safari into the sand dunes, an amazing activity that is sure to get your heart pumping. Breakfast will be provided.

Day 10: Swakopmund - Etosha National Park (approximately 600 kilometers / 373 miles)

On day 10, you will make your way further north to Etosha National Park. Etosha is an amazing park and wildlife viewing there is some of the best in Africa. Because Etosha is situated on a salt pan that is so dry, the wildlife tends to crowd around the very limited water resources, making for great animal sightings. You will stay in a luxury lodge for the next two nights, enjoying wildlife viewing, scrumptious meals, and spa treatments. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 11: Etosha National Park rest day and safari (approximately 0 - 60 kilometers / 0 – 38 miles)

On day 11, you will swop your motorcycles for a safari vehicle and spend the morning within Etosha National Park. Look out for lions, leopards, elephants, and the majestic gemsbok, an antelope native to desert climates. The waterholes form oasis in the desert that comes alive with animal activity during the day as thirsty animals come down to drink. Do not forget your cameras. Safaris there seem like a different world. Meals included are breakfast and dinner.

Day 12: Etosha National Park - Okavango, Caprivi Strip (approximately 566 kilometers / 352 miles)

Day 12 will be a lovely ride through the Namibian countryside. Watch out for elephants and other wildlife! After a scrumptious breakfast, you will continue east onto the Caprivi Strip where you will spend the next couple of nights on the Okavango Panhandle. The area is a paradise of flooded plains and swamps teeming with wildlife. Relax on the deck overlooking the river and enjoy an unforgettable African sunset while being serenaded by hippos and African fish eagles. Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 13: Okavango rest day (approximately 0 - 60 kilometers / 0 – 37 miles)

You have the entire day free to relax and enjoy the beautiful river setting. Today you will enjoy an Okavango Panhandle trip where you get into a mokoro or African canoe and make your way down the Okavango River in search of hippos, crocodiles, and elephants with a bit of help from a local guide or poler who will expertly navigate the waterways. Meals included are breakfast and dinner.

Day 14: Okavango to Victoria Falls, Zambia (approximately 550 kilometers / 342 miles)

Riding through the Caprivi Strip, you will make your way into Zambia. As you drive along the beautiful road, you will be able to view African homesteads and lush African bush. There, life is simple and sweet. The border crossing between Namibia and Zambia is a breeze and in the late afternoon, you will arrive at the resort hotel, right on the edge of Victoria Falls or “the smoke that thunders.” Meals included are breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 15: Victoria Falls rest day (approximately 0 - 60 kilometers / 0 - 37 miles)

You have the whole day free to enjoy all the activities that Victoria Falls has on offer. Included in the tour price is a helicopter flight over the falls known as the Flight of Angels and it is the best way to see the falls. The hotel opens right onto the Victoria Falls view site. Meals included are breakfast and dinner.

Day 16: Rest day in Victoria Falls and day trip to Chobe National Park - Livingstone (approximately 0 - 60 kilometers / 0 - 37 miles)

Leaving the motorcycles behind, you will travel across Botswana to enjoy a safari into Chobe National Park. The elephant viewing there is the best in Africa. You will literally see thousands of elephants as you float down the Chobe River in custom built river safari boats. You will also get up close and personal with hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, and other animals that come down to the river to drink.
