Day 1: Johannesburg to Kruger (Lowveld farmland)

You’ll depart early from Johannesburg / Pretoria and drive East toward the Kruger National Park. This route showcases some of the finest farmlands and mountain passes in South Africa. En route, you’ll stop for brunch / lunch at one of the restaurants en-route.

After lunch, you make your way towards a luxury lodge in Greater Kruger. The lodge is unfenced which adds to the excitement and adventure.

After checking in, you will have some time to relax before you board an open 4×4 vehicle for an exciting three-hour sunset and night safari game drive. In the dark, your guide will use a spotlight to help locate nocturnal animals.

Romantic dinner and overnight in luxury accommodation.

Days 2 and 3: Kruger National Park

This morning is an early start at around 5 a.m. Greet the morning with the smell of fresh brewing coffee to be enjoyed with rusks and biscuits. You then board an open land cruiser for a sunrise game drive.

Your guide will educate about the finer details of the bush, its wildlife, and denizens, whilst your tracker looks for signs of the Big 5. After this sunrise game drive, you return to the lodge for a scrumptious breakfast. Later you can go on a riveting bush walk with your armed ranger.

You will also have time to relax at the lodge. Enjoy the views from the large deck overlooking the waterhole or take a dip in the pool or enjoy an afternoon siesta.

After lunch, you will experience another late afternoon open vehicle game drive. Expect some intense sightings as the guide gets you as close as possible to the wild animals. You stop for refreshments somewhere deep in the bush.

After your game drive, you will enjoy a superb dinner. Overnight in luxury deep in the bush.

Day 4: Panorama Route - return to Johannesburg

This is the last day of your African Safari. This morning you will do a quick 90-minute sunrise game before returning to the lodge for breakfast.

After breakfast, you leave Kruger behind and make your way along the scenic Panorama route stopping at Blyde River Canyon (the world’s third-largest canyon), the Bourkes Luck Potholes, and God’s Window. You will enjoy breathtaking views and have plenty of photo opportunities along this scenic route.

You enjoy a light lunch somewhere along the route and then make your way back to Johannesburg. Tonight you stay in a luxury hotel or guesthouse somewhere in Johannesburg. The next day, you will start the second leg of your romantic getaway – an idyllic island off the coast of Mozambique.

Days 5 - 8: Medjumbe Paradise Island Mozambique

After a hearty breakfast, you board a commercial flight to Pemba. From there you board a private helicopter for an exciting aerial trip to Medjumbe Island.

After a 45-minute helicopter flight you land at the tropical paradise that is Medjumbe. Here you don’t have a rigid itinerary and you can pretty much do what you want when you want.

You will check into your private beach villa and just enjoy the simplistic and unspoiled magic this island has to offer. Activities include walks on the beach, dining by design, spa treatments and water activities.

Enjoy drinks with a view at the Bahari Bar Lounge or fine dining at the Jahazi Restaurant. You will also experience dining by design at a romantic setting where ocean waves gently lap the shore.

Stroll white sands to the island’s deserted lighthouse, keeping an eye out for sea turtle hatchlings. Explore some of the most beautiful reefs on earth, all within easy reach of the resort. Relax by the pool overlooking the ocean while sipping your favorite cocktail.

You can also partake in water activities such as kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, scuba diving, skiing, and sailing. It's all about you having fun and sharing special time with a loved one.

After your lazy hazy days at this tropical paradise, you will fly back to Pemba. Sadly this will be the end of your beautiful vacation. But you will have made memories to last a lifetime and of course, can come back again sometime in the future.

Kruger National Park

The Kruger National Park is located in the low veld in the North-Eastern region of South Africa and spans across two provinces – the Mpumalanga and Limpopo Provinces. It is not only the largest national game reserve in South Africa, it is also the most prestigious and impressive.

This world-renowned park occupies an area of around 2 million hectares (20,000 square kilometers) and is home to a large variety of fauna and flora. The Kruger Park boasts the richest assortment of life forms in Southern Africa and as such offers one of the best safari and game viewing experiences possible.

The park is about 360 kilometers long (from North to South) and about 65 kilometers wide (from East to West) and about the same size as Wales. The Kruger was formally proclaimed a national park in 1926, and today it forms part of the Great Limpopo Frontier Park.

This massive peace park links the Kruger with the the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe and with the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique. Zimbabwe lies to the North and Mozambique to the East of the Kruger Park. The Kruger Park is famous for its abundant wildlife and it is also a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques.

Several rivers flow through the Kruger in an easterly direction, including the Sabie, Olifants, Crocodile, Letaba, Luvuvhu and Limpopo Rivers.

It is about 4.5 hours drive from Johannesburg to the southern part of the Kruger.

Climate in the Kruger Park

The Lowveld has a subtropical climate with hot humid summers and generally mild winters. In summer, temperatures can rise to 40 °C (104 °F). The rainy season usually starts late October and lasts till May.

June through September is the dry winter season some consider this the best time to visit the Park. During the mild winter season the sparser vegetation makes it easier to spot game. During the winter the days are milder and there is less chance of contracting malaria.

Wildlife in the Kruger National Park

The Kruger Park is home to more species of mammals than any other reserve in Africa. Here you will find the BIG FIVE (Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Buffalo) as well as zebra, giraffe, cheetah, hippo and countless antelope. Apart from mammals, the wide ranges of life forms found here include species of trees, plants, birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles and insects.
