Join Safari India in this short but amazing safari trip in the heart of Corbett National Park, Dhikala zone. Witness various wild animals wandering around in their natural habitats, including elephants, wild boars, deer, and even tigers.
You will spend one night at Dhikala Forest Lodge, located in the heart of Corbett National Park, on the bank of Ramganga Reservoir. The forest rest house is managed by the forest department of the park and provides an opportunity to the visitors of the national park to stay inside the forest. Picturesque location and beautiful surroundings make it an ideal place to stay away from the hustle bustle of city life.
Dhikala Forest Lodge is the only lodge within the national park which provides electricity within the rooms and thus is ideally suited for families. In order to reach the lodge, one has to enter Corbett National Park via the Dhangarhi gate. The distance of the lodge from Dhangarhi gate is 32 kilometers, and as soon as the vehicle enters the Dhangarhi gate, one gets an idea of the beauty of the Dhikala zone.
Other lodges like Gairal, Sultan, Sarapduli, and Khinnanauli fall on the way to Dhikala Forest Lodge. The journey from Dhangarhi to Dhikala Forest Lodge is adventurous and provides many opportunities for wildlife viewing. For the safety of its visitors, the lodge is covered with a solar wire fence.
Dhikala Forest Rest House has a total room inventory of 32 rooms and is further classified into six wings. Apart from the 32 rooms, it has two dormitories, each with 12 beds. The bathrooms in the dormitories are common. All 32 rooms at Dhikala Forest Lodge have attached bathrooms and running hot (solar) and cold water. The campus of Dhikala Forest Rest House is located in the core area of Corbett National Park.
Arrive at Corbett National Park. Board your waiting gypsy and start your journey inside the jungle via the Dhangari gate of the park. Reach your forest rest house passing through the dense sal forests and grasslands inhabited by a wide range of wildlife. Lunch will be at the rest house. In the evening, go for a jeep safari around the Dhikala zone of Corbett National Park. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the rest house.
Have an early-morning start and go for a jeep safari at different areas of Corbett National Park. Breakfast will be at the rest house, followed by leisure time till lunch. After lunch, enjoy another jeep safari. After the safari, relax inside the campus and feel the freshness of the jungle. Enjoy a wildlife movie at the rest house. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the rest house.
In the early morning, enjoy a morning jeep safari in the grasslands of Dhikala. After breakfast, move out of the jungle via the Dhangari gate. On the way, visit the crocodile point and high bank. You will be dropped at Ramnagar. Depart with sweet memories of the tour of Corbett National Park.
On the last day of the safari, you will have the opportunity to see various reptiles and amphibians at crocodile point and high bank.
This safari will take place in the Dhikala zone of Corbett National Park, India. Dhikala zone has one of the most picturesque and beautiful landscapes in the world, and the rich wildlife in the area adds to its charm. Dhikala is the biggest zone of the park open for visitors and provides wonderful chances of game viewing.
Dhikala zone gets its name from Dhikala grassland, which is one of the biggest grasslands of the park supporting a variety of wildlife. Other than grasslands, Dhikala zone has sal forests, mixed forests, and a variety of flora. The lifeline of the zone is Ramganga River, which supports the wildlife in the area and adds to the beauty of the forest.
Dhikala zone offers sightings of a variety of wildlife, including many rare or endangered species. One of the major attractions of the Dhikala zone is the royal Bengal tiger, but some of the animals commonly sighted there are elephants, spotted deer, sambar deer, hog deer, barking deer, common langur, rhesus macaque, wild boar, crocodiles, yellow-throated martins, gharials, mahseer, pythons, and snakes.
If one is lucky, one can also get to see nocturnal creatures like leopards, sloth bears, porcupines, and pangolins. Dhikala is also a paradise for birds, and one can get to see more than 500 species of birds. More than 300 species of birds are permanent residents of the area. Dhikala zone is highly popular in terms of providing shelter to some of the highly endangered species like hog deer, gharials, otters, and golden mahseer.
Dhikala zone is open for tourists from November 15 to June 15 every year, and during the remaining period, it remains closed due to monsoons as many streams cross the road leading to the zone, and it gets impossible to cross the streams due to high water levels and pressures.
The food in Dhikala Forest Lodge is not a problem as there are two canteens within the premises of the lodge. One of them is run by Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam, which is led by the tourism department of Uttarakhand and offers buffet meals. There is also a private canteen that offers food in an a la carte menu.
Pickup and drop-off at the railway station cost 400 INR per jeep.
