Lake Nakuru a is renown for the birdlife, especially when in season the vast flocks of Lesser Flamingoes, Pelicans and water birds, plus you have some large mammals including Rhino’s, Leopards, Hippo’s, Zebra, Wildebeest, etc.
Lake Nakuru is an alkaline soda lake with an abundance of algae that is a rich source of sustenance for millions of flamingos. The spectacle of the shifting pink of mass on the lake, consuming a quarter of a million tons of algae on every hectare of the lake each year, can be seen nowhere else on earth.
This safari trip will take place in Maasai Mara, Kenya. The Masai Mara is unquestionably one of the most famous parks in the world and quite rightly so. The enormous herds of migrating wildebeest attracting several predators make for an unrivaled wildlife spectacle. This ecosystem, attached to the Serengeti in Tanzania to the south, is truly tremendous.
The vast plains provide in a single vista a broad selection of wildlife grazing together (or in hidden grasses watching their prey). Here you will see huge herds of zebras, a variety of gazelles, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, and forever amusing warthogs. You can also watch the cats including lions, leopards, hyenas, and some cheetahs. If you're really lucky, you'll see the resident black rhinos but they're pretty shy and rarely seen.
If you're after the Big Five, the Mara delivers in spades. However, fame comes at a price. The Mara has attracted numerous mass market tourism and encroaching Masai which have downgraded the wilderness experience. All said, there are ways around it.
During this safari trip, your breakfast, lunch, and dinners will be served daily. You will also be served local beer and house wine. During your full-day Mara Reserve visit, a picnic lunch will be prepared for you.
Please arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO).
