Day 1: Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
After your delicious breakfast at your favorite hotel, your professional driver guide will pick you up at 8:00 a.m. Rwanda local time. Together you will drive to Kigali Genocide Memorial for a 2-and-a-half-hour tour. Here you will remember, grieve and learn more about the place where more than 250,000 victims of the genocide were laid to rest.
Get a chance to reconcile the current Rwanda of progress with the Rwanda of 1994. Support the genocide survivors by giving a donation on your visit to this memorial place. Yes, the tour here may leave you struggling for words in tears, and it may get you infuriated, and destroy your faith in humanity but Rumara Safaris (SMC) Ltd. assures you it matters a lot. The survivors and victims of this genocide really need our time and support.
This two-and-a-half-hour tour will end at about 11 o’clock, you will rest here, relax, and take some refreshments. At exactly 12 p.m., you will embark on your scenic journey to Bwindi National Park. It will be a 4 to 5-hour drive through thousands of hills. Your driver will take you through the Kyanika border to enter Uganda. Check-in at the lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking at Bwindi National Park
After your heavy breakfast that will energize you for the day, you will set off for your strenuous yet exciting and fun-filled day. You will start off your day with packed lunch since this activity will take quite a long time. You will then head to the park headquarters for a briefing that will prepare you for your long waited and very thrilling adventure. At the briefing please remember to share your interests and abilities with the guide so you may be allocated a gorilla family that will meet your interest and be less hectic to trek.
Gorilla trekking will take between 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the gorilla family allocated to you. And you will be given an hour to stay and watch those lovable mountain gorillas. Please don’t forget to take memorable photos with those awesome cousins of yours.
As you trek mountain gorillas, you will be more likely to have an opportunity to sight other wildlife like rare monkeys, elephants, black-fronted dikers, leopards, buffalos, and many more. Enjoy also the beautiful birds in the forest and Bwindi National Park’s amazing scenery.
Upon completion of all that, you will head back to the headquarter to pick up your gorilla trekking certificate and then set off back to Kigali. Your driver will drive you to the airport for your international departure flight.
