Enjoy the best experience in a South African safari that will give you the opportunity to watch the Big five of South Africa in two different locations, both to be found within Kruger National Park. The spirit of safari comes alive at the historical Kirkman’s Kamp. Here you step back in time into the gracious early Transvaal atmosphere of this original 1920’s homestead and marvel at the spectacular views of the unspoiled landscape that surrounds the Sand river from each of the 18 guest suites. Rolling lawns carve out a niche in a wild and thumbling wilderness that hosts memorable game viewing in one of the most renowned Big five wildlife regions in the world. Spacious sitting, dining, and bar areas steeped in the colonial atmosphere of gracious style and luxury contain mementoes of a time long past, while the untamed wilderness outside whispers a promise of adventures not to be forgotten. A sparkling swimming pool boasts a magnificent view over the valley of the Sand river.
The three nights at Kirkman’s Kamp include accommodation, three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local bar spirits and beers, teas and coffees, refreshments on game drives, laundry, safari activities, one-hour nature walks accompanied by experienced armed trackers (subject to availability), emergency medical evacuation insurance, VAT, transfers to and from the lodge airstrip.
Tucked under a canopy of mopane and tamboti trees, Ngala Safari Lodge boasts 20 classic thatched cottages and the spacious family suite. Each en-suite cottage, with private veranda, exudes a natural luxury ambiance. The gracious family suite accommodates four guests and includes a private swimming pool and the use of a private vehicle. The lodge’s sparkling swimming pool and sundeck overlook a natural riverine woodland, ideal for avid birdwatchers.
Hearty breakfasts and delicious lunches are served in the dappled shade of an enormous weeping boerbean tree. Upon your return from exhilarating evening drives, you are welcome by Ngala’s hospitable staff with a banquet set in the elegant candlelight courtyard or an African feast in the open air traditional boma.
The lodge’s spacious thatched bar, dining, and sitting areas are open to the war breezes of the inviting African bushveld.
During your stay here you will enjoy three meal a day, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, refreshments on game drives, laundry, safari activities, one-hour nature walks accompanied by experienced armed trackers (subject yo availability), emergency medical evacuation insurance, VAT, transfers to and from the lodge airstrip.
At O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB), you will board your direct non-stop flight to Hoedspruit, departure is at 10:15, arrival is at 11:20, or you may departure at 12:15, and arrive at 13:20. Upon arrival at Hoedspruit Airport, you will be welcomed by a representative and a road transfer will bring you to Ngala Private Game Reserve.
Kruger National Park is South Africa’s largest wildlife sanctuary and one of the biggest game reserves in the world. A spectacular diversity of wildlife moves through this immense wilderness including breeding herds of elephant, leopard, spotted hyena, giraffe, large buffalo, and white rhino. With "ngala" meaning lion in Shangaan, the local language, the game reserve lives up to its promise, supporting several large prides of these powerful cats.
African wild dog can also be spotted moving through the reserve. Ngala was the first private game reserve to be incorporated into the Kruger National Park and has exclusive traversing rights over 14 700 hectares of game-rich wilderness. The reserve offers an intimate African wildlife experience, with game drives led by expert ranger and tracker teams. Sensitive off-road practices allow close-up game sightings, while walking safaris and bush walks are also offered.
In one of Africa’s most innovative conservation partnership agreements, the annual lease, traversing fees, and percentage of Ngala’s profits are paid to the National Park Trust for further conservation projects throughout South Africa.
After morning game drive and breakfast, a road transfer will bring you to Kirkman’s Kamp in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, your second destination in Greater Kruger National Park.
The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is famed for its intimate wildlife encounters, particularly leopard viewing. Home to a host of animals, including the Big five - lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino - , Sabi Sand Game Reserve is part of a conservation area that covers over two million hectares, almost five million acres, an area equivalent to the state of New Jersey.
With no boundary fences between Sabi Sand Game Reserve and Kruger National Park, this reserve benefits from the great diversity of animals found in one of the richest wildlife areas of the African continent, along with the additional benefits experienced on a private game reserve. Game drives traverse an area on 6,300 hectares (15,568 acres) and strict vehicle limits at sightings ensure the exclusivity of the game viewing experience. Sensitive off-road driving ensures that guests have the best possible view of any exceptional sighting and rangers are constantly in touch with each other to keep track of animal movements.
After a last morning game drive and breakfast, a flight transfer will bring you back to Johannesburg for your onward arrangements. The following flights to Johannesburg will be available: departure at 13:30, arrival at 14:35 and departure at 14:50, arrival at 15:35.
During this safari, you will take walks safaris and bush walks in Ngala Game Reserve and in Sabi Sand Game Reserve.
This safari will take place in two different locations in South Africa: Ngala Gamer Reserve and Sabi Sand game Reserve. Both of them are private game reserves, that are part of the Greater Kruger National Park.

Tuition is provided throughout the safari, from technical advice over practical tips for photographers on safari to composition and postproduction. Attendees of all experience levels in photography are welcome, also beginners. Guests learn as well about the African bush, anticipating on animal behaviour, and creating great compositions.
Please book your flights to O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB). From here you will board directly on a domestic flight to Hoedspruit. This flight as well as transfers from Hoedspruit to the venue location are included in the price of the retreat.
